The Rangers added some players to the training camp roster but it's not complete. It doesn't include MDZ,Grachev and Bourque. Bartek and Crowder were added. The two goalies from Traverse City were added.

The QMJHL has Bourque listed as players attending NHL camps

Quote:
Québec, Remparts

Danick Paquette, Atlanta
Kelsey Tessier, Colorado
Patrick Cusack, Colorado
Peter Delmas, Colorado
Dmitry Kugryshev, Washington
Samuel Groulx, San Jose
David Gilbert, Chicago
Ryan, Bourque, New York (Rangers)

Unlike the Mets where they would have had Gabby run 6 miles instead of 3 and then do jumping jacks for 3 hours.

While firing 80 backhanders to the top shelf in rapid succession.

"Welcome to Camp Torts"

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/ran...amp-torts.html

Quote:
"That stuff has kind of taken on a life of its own," John Tortorella said today about his training camps' reputation for being particularly grueling. "But the testing IS difficult."
Quote:
First, one newsworthy note: Jim Schoenfeld is going to remain an assistant coach after taking the position on an interim basis after the Rangers cleaned their house of Tom Renney's guys.

Schoney won't be behind the bench for games, but he'll work with the defense and on the penalty kill in practice. Mike Sullivan will be the lone assistant behind the bench and will change the defense while Tortorella takes care of the forwards.
Quote:
Meanwhile, the sessions that begin this morning in Greenburgh are going to be all about conditioning, with a whole lot of skating in the morning and some running - three miles' worth - later in the day.

His fitness tests, he explained, are done "for the right reason - it's trying to become a team that's willing to fight through and not give in." The coaches won't put a puck on the ice until Monday at the earliest.
Quote:
The players in camp will begin bright and early - first meeting, 7 a.m. - and will skate sprint laps on Day 1, six sets of three laps, before skating cross country tomorrow, 45 laps in all. And they'll have a pleasant three-mile run to boot.

Thursday should see the first round of cuts.
Quote:
Ideally, Tortorella would like to see two forwards and two D-men emerge enough from the pack of Ranger kids to win jobs with the big club. Torts mentioned seeing Michael Del Zotto and Evgeny Grachev play in Traverse City
Quote:
rtem Anisimov also drew praise from the coach for "showing no fear" when he was called up to play Game 7 against the Caps; Tortorella said "it was me who didn't have the (guts) to give him more minutes."

I'm really hoping we can get two kids on that back end, and two kids on the forward lines, so we can develop four guys as we go along here."
Quote:
To me the biggest thing is a power-play quarterback, someone who can control the play," Torts said. "We talked about this last year - to me, it's not so much making the big play, score a goal. Where we really struggled, we panicked - we just didn't have control of the puck when we really could have kept control, and that's the quarterback's responsibility.
Quote:
But does the coach see that power-play fix emerging from within the current group? "I wouldn't necessarily say that," he said. "I think (Glen Sather) knows there are some areas we could improve, just like 29 other teams."

Sounds like they're looking to bring in a defenseman. Other than Babchuk I don't see who that could be. Unless they sign Zubov.

This 3 mile run tonight is being held inside or outside? It's been raining for two days. That's it. Have $60 million of talent run on wet grounds(if it's being held outside).

45 points in 337 NHL games.

And he really was not good with the Rangers 8 years ago.

Hopefully it is indoors, on one of those nice rubber tracks that have a lot of give and bounce.

Chris Drury on expectations: "Shut up and play." Meaning, don't get spoiled. It will be a theme this season.

http://rinkrap.blogspot.com/2009/09/...-part-two.html

" Tortorella spent much time explaining the details of his grueling training camp, one in which the players will spend the first two days taking conditioning tests. They will not partake in hockey-related drills or scrimmage until Monday. "I just believe so much that conditioning is such a huge part of winning because you are not chasing the game, the game's coming to you when you are in top shape...the players are going to make the decisions for us as far as where they sit with the team."

"The Rangers head coach stated that he sees four spots available for younger players to step up and grab, which is excatly what he wants to see happen. He mentioned two spots on defense and two at the forward position. Torts did not mention all the contenders, but he did speak about defenseman Matt Gilroy and center Artem Anisimov at different times during his media session. "I am really hoping that there are some surprises with the kids...we have to keep growing our base of the Callahans, the Dubinskys, the Staals, the Girardis, and add a few more here. Then you are building your team, and maybe there won't be as much turnover as you go through the years because you have your foundation of youth."

LOVE IT.
