Hopefully he can stick, it'd be great if he could be the #6 or #7 defenseman.
Yes, but I do like the outpouring of support from fans of other teams for McClaren to vanquish our Atlantic division rivals with his hipchecks

I'm confused as to why people find this hilarious. It's a try-out, if he does well they gain a roster player, if he bombs, they're in the same situation they were in yesterday with no money tied up to him.

good luck Kyle loved you on the sharks... I still remember that 5-3 kill where two sharks players lost their sticks... one of the best moments in sharks history...

Kyle McLaren? Can't skate. He would fit in on the new Leafs defense..

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't see how the Rangers lose in this situation.

I remember that PK as well.....a thing of beauty it was.

Glad that KMac is at least getting a shot to show that he can still play, hopefully it works out well for him.

If he's in good shape and ready to play, I can see him making it as the 7th defenseman who will fill in from time to time, but I can't see him being a regular

Let's degrade a guy due to injuries, sound plan.

Injuries, or not, he wasn't meant for the new NHL. Though, it's kind of fitting, injuries practically ends his career when his cheap shot on Zednik changed him.

I love the old videos of that guy's gigantic hip checks. It's always a pity when a guy wants to keep playing but his body says no.

I can't say much about his hits in Boston, but loved the guy on the Sharks. Perfect, monster hip checks right to the chest. The kind that shake the whole arena yet doesn't leave a guy with a concussion. The shoulder-to-the-face checking needs to go, IMO. I want to see forwards get knocked on their ass by good defensemen, not sent to the hospital.

Time to get off my soapbox.

It's a shame that the hip-check is a skill that too few players still have. A proper hip-check is a great tool to stop a forward dead in his tracks with that low center of gravity smack. Of course not too low to clip a guys knees, but that solid hip into the soft gut is great! Folds any rushing forward in half.
