Washington - Colorado

EDIT After Post #8:
Okay, since the feedback is that not enough is going to Colorado in terms of youth/quality, what if the Caps added stud goalie prospect, Michal Neuvirth?

Assuming all NMC/NTCs are waived:

To Washington
PosPlayerCap Hit09-1010-11 11-12
RHejduk, Milan3.94UFAUFA
WTucker, Darcy2.252.3UFAUFA
DHannan, Scott4.54.54.5UFA

 Total$10.650$10.800$4.500 -
 Effect-0.083-0.575-1.000 -
 Cumulative Salary Effect   -1.575

To Colorado
PosPlayerCap Hit09-1010-1111-12
WFleischmann, Tomas0.7250.725RFARFA
CNylander, Michael4.8755.53UFA
WClark, Chris2.6332.652.5UFA
DPothier, Brian2.52.5UFAUFA

 Total$10.733$11.375$5.500 -
 Effect+0.083+0.575+1.000 -
 Cumulative Salary Effect   +1.575

The exchange of veterans assists each team in regards to moving some "quality"/cap hits to where it is needed at the expense of positions where it was somewhat abundant, all the while fully aware of future cap space requirements. The latter bit is particularly important to WSH, and for their troubles in that regard, the AVS pick up Tomas Fleischman, a very affordable young player headed into RFA status next season.

Thoughts?

It looks good from both sides.

I think it breaks down to Fleischmann and Clark for Hejduk, which both Washington and Colorado would benefit from.

Colorado would not move Hejduk for Fleischmann and Clark. We'd have to add good prospects and a first, if not firsts.

How do you figure? You left out the part where we give up our most reliable defenceman for Nylander.

Big Pass from the Avs.

Not enough, in terms of youth, going to the Avs. I'm sure they don't want to trade Hejduk. You have to offer enough to convince them. I don't think Tomas Fleischmann is enough.

Hells no. We're giving up our #1 RW and our top pairing D. This doesn't make the Avalanche better by the slightest stretch of imagination.

This is simply not a good deal for Colorado.

Interesting trade, but probably a no from CO.

The cap numbers are close enough to work, so good job, but the talent isn't even close. Just because Hannan and Hejduk are older doesn't mean we'd give them up for so little. They're both worth more than this.

counter:

Alzner and Nylander for Hannan + Hensick

I don't think the Caps do that then, even if it favors them. Probably can't afford to git rid of him yet.

I don't think so. If you watched Calder Cup playoffs, you would have seen how extremely good he is. I think he's so good he can upset Varlamov as the number 1 down the road.

Well exactly, that playoff run made all the difference. Before then he was simply another goalie prospect. Soon after he became "stud" prospect. I feel comfortable that Varly will maintain the current pecking order however. We also have to keep in mind the latter's own playoff run.

Colorado has no need for Nylander. Stastny, Duchene, Wolski, Hensick and Galiardi are all natural centers. If Stastny gets injured this season, I could see them being good trading partners.

I'd think harder about it, but honestly there's just not enough there. The deal is too ambitious -- Hannan and Hejduk together are too much to ask from the Avs, especially while trying to simultaneously dump Nylander. The the return on that basis alone better be pretty freakin amazing, which this is not. In fact, it puts Colorado in a bit of a cap crunch for 2010 and 2011.

that's not even mentioning that Hejduk has a NTC he's already said he won't waive, and the organization feels great loyalty towards him. He's probably retiring an Av.

Scale it back to just getting Hannan and a Nylander dump: Hannan + Hensick for Nylander + Alzner.

First Huntsy, then Kono, now Clarkie.

I guess if you wear the "C" for the Caps it's going to start to stand for - "Trade me to Colorado"!

Uh, I think you're being a little optimistic there. Duchene probably won't play a full year for a year or 2 at least. Hensick hasn't been very effective and could use a change of scenery, and Wolski and Galiardi both will probably play LW this year at least.

Nylander would at least allow us to keep from rushing Duchene. It's not a bad fit, honestly.

Goalies can become worthless much faster than other roster players though. If this deal can go through with Neuvirth and a 2nd added in from our side I'd do it in a heartbeat and bank on Varlamov becoming quality starter material. Though preferably they take out Tucker and we take out Clark. We get a guy who'd be our most defensively solid defense man and one of the NHL's best two way wingers on a good contract. And get rid of our salary headaches.

Ovechkin Backstrom Hejduk (possibly best line in the league)
Semin Morrison Knuble
Laich Steckel Bourque
Clark Gordon Bradley

Green Poti
Alzner Hannan
Erskine Jurcina

Varlamov
Theodore

That lineup looks significantly better than our current one.

Not getting Alzner unless Shattenkirk+ is going the other way somehow.

If he's ready it isn't rushing him. There isn't a master guide that says when a player is ready. I think Duchene will have a year similar to Stamkos' last season. And there is nothing wrong with it. Even if Duchene doesn't make the team, Wolski is a better center, so he would be our #2 center.

Big NO from the AVS.
Not enough coming back for both Milan Hejduk and Scott Hannan.
But I think Colorado would give away Tucker for free.

Ehrhoff went for free. Hannan <<< Ehrhoff.

Hejduk is the only really attractive piece, but still a hell of a piece.

Colorado has no use for anyone they're getting except for Fleischmann.

And Neuvirth, don't forget. T-Cann is not enough for CO's future.
