"Pacioretty gets a head start at earning spot with Canadiens"

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sport...436/story.html

Sorry if it has been posted already. Article about Pacioretty and the rookie camp coming up.

Quote:
Pacioretty, who is 6-foot-2 and 192 pounds, said his offseason workouts have made him more explosive.

“I worked mostly on my strength; you can never be too strong,” he said.

Pacioretty has also reduced his body fat from 14 per cent to 6 per cent
For those who wondered why he's only at 192 pounds

192lbs at 6% body fat is extra lean.
I've been doing intense workout routines for the past month but I'm just starting the zone diet. It should bring my body fat down dramatically and I'm at 6'2 180lbs, so I'm far from having excess fat.

So a lean 6'2 192lbs guy is gonna be one hell of a fit man. I'm glad to see he took the off season training seriously, dropping down 8% in fat is huge and should give him a loooooot more energy and strength.

Not exactly the focus of the article, but apparently Engqvist won't be seeing Hamilton?

He was never supposed to. The arrangement with his Swedish team was that if he had no chance of making the Habs this year, since he's still under contract in Sweden, they would have wanted to see him being send back this year. To which the Habs agreed and send him immeidately home knowing he wouldn't obviously make the Habs. But he is coming in Hamilton next year.

Whitesnake, Hickey makes it sound like Engy will only come over the day there's a spot in the NHL open to him and wouldn't come to play in the AHL ever. I wouldn't trust Hickey all that much though, he's not one to have inside info.

As for Max Pac, can't help but get excited after reading that. To be in that type of shape bodes really well.

I'm a bodybuilder and 190lbs at 5ft8.

And im not even that big at all

at 6ft2, you should be 210, at least, with low bodyfat.. come on.

That's not what it sounded like when they decided to send him back. He had a contract over there, and his team didn't mind to see the Habs signing him unless he comes back if he doesn't make the NHL. I mean at one point, either for the language, either for the ice surface or because you have to be used to this side of the earth, most players will have to play in the AHL. They won't go from Europe to the NHL unless you are an exceptional. And I like Enqvist, but he's not one of those.

We will see next year. But while it was important for them to keep them in our system, like I said it should be at the end of the dev. camp, I believe that signing him also means wanting to have him close. Unless they do decide that the Swedish league is better for his development. But at this point, I believe it's just a one-year thing. I will be totally expecting to see Enqvist in North America next year.

I have to agree....but....he is still a kid, so his body hasn't matured yet.

In my prime (29 years old), I was 5'10 1/2, 192lbs.....approx. 5% body fat. And strong, strong, strong .

6'2" and 192 is way too slight, IMO....but I bet if he "normalizes" his diet, he'll become fuller, bigger and heavier...but still be lean and explosive.

At 20, 192lbs isn't that bad. He was listed at 203lbs last year though. Oh well, we'll see what hes all about real soon.

192 lbs is too skinny for a 6'2 guy projected to be a powerforward IMO. Higgins is 2 inches shorter and was @ 200 pounds with the lowest fat % on the team last season. I hope Patch could play at least @ 210 pounds.

from the little I understand about trainning...explosivity and lower body fat doesnt always mean more muscular mass ... (ie: kung fu, tennis & soccer players...ect.. )

he said last year he had trouble to keep up for an entire season ... I'm pretty sure he had that in mind when he was trainning... which wouldnt have to be tied up with more muscles ... pretty sure he did what he thought was best for him ... who cares how much he weights if he feels better?

all that, of course ... imho ...

So the question would be.. would having a body builder shape help him play better hockey? I guess his training coach knows better.

No you weren't. Unless you competed, in which case you might have been that low on the day of the competition. And even then, I still doubt it. Pro bodybuilders go on stage at around 6-8%

No offense on your Bodybuilding career but there's a difference between working muscle and show off muscle.

192 at 6'2 is not skinny nor big but its a perfect healthy weight because that's true there's a point where every pound you put on your body just make it worse keep in mind Pac his still young.

Who said Higgins had the lowest fat % last year? On the contrary, as I recall, he was measured near the highest fat % on the team, to which Higgins replied that the measurements must be wrong because "I can't be that fat".

Higgins can be trusted on these things. He also said he could score 40.

I don't get it..
Is MaxPac a bodybuilder??..

A lean 192lbs at 6'2 is very good. There's definitely potential to gain muscle later on, but that's irrelevant.

Also, bigger doesn't mean stronger or fitter, but I'm not surprise I have to tell you this after all you're a bodybuilder.
A Strength training is different from a Mass training which is what Body builders want.
Bodybuilders will have on average 3-5% body fat, so him around 6% is very good.

That's irrelevant. There are guys at 170lbs that look 190ish. Some at 200lbs that look 180lbs.

A lot of your strength will come from your diet. Combine both the correct training and diet will make you optimize it.

This idea that size and weight is what measures power and strength is extremely foolish.
