Since it will take like 5-7 years for the new complex and you say it will be two years when Edmonton won't be able to host shows. So there is going to be like a 3-5 year span when this city is gonna turn into super deadmonton because no one will be coming here? Trust me if there is money to be made from selling out Rexall/ Commonwealth, the artists will still come.

Please enlighten me on what bands/ artists would now come here because we have a new sweet complex.
Indeed.

One of the ironies of having high priced facilities to stage events is that it actually limits possible attendance and results in higher ticket prices in that area.

For instance the Moncton "Magnetic Hill" venue which is mostly a large field has had all the top acts and tours and often being the best concerts on the tour.

Close to 100k people took in the AC/DC concert at Magnetic Hill and for cheaper prices than here and basically anybody that wanted tickets could get GA.

Conversely in Edmonton, with the best facility in the nation, Commonwealth Stadium, we have fixed limited seats, instant sellout, and extremely high scalped ticket prices.

motto:

If you don't build it they come even more and love it as much as a "Eurofest"

According to the head of Live Nation, Edmonton will be skipped over if the show can't fit the facility. There's a reason many shows skip Calgary; they don't fit the Saddledome. Commonwealth can only be used for outdoor shows, maybe four months out of the year.

Every year that passes, Edmonton will miss out on more shows. Bank on it.

Artists won't change their show just so they can come to Edmonton and play Rexall. That's not how it works.

A lot of the naysaying I'm gathering from this thread and previous ones is rather hypocritical:
People ***** about getting the environment [inside and outside] at Rexall-the only way to rectify that is to build a new arena [or renovate which won't happen. Period]. The same people then ***** about getting a new arena.
People ***** about the lack of events in Edmonton-Event planners don't want Rexall because it is too ghetto however a new arena would fix this. The same people don't want a new arena.

Just like the team, a lot of the naysayers are stuck in a vicious cycle as well. Staying status quo aint going to fix anything.
