I don't wish injury on anyone, but the Canucks are better without Johnson

That would be my concern as well.

According to Dan Murphy of SportsNet the happy Slovakian wanderer has returned to Vancouver and was on the ice today:
Quote:
Pavol Demitra on the ice today. Will get an update from coach later.

Botchford update on Demitra:
Quote:
Demitra skating. But...still has pain in shoulder. Targeting a comeback in 4 weeks. He says: May be sooner, may be longer

do we really need an update on Demitra every day?

Yes. Since he has just returned from Slovakia it seems newsworthy.

This is the Injury Report 09-10 Canucks Injury Status thread. Seems to fit.

If you do not like it try self-censorship.

Pavol speaks:
Quote:
Pavol Demitra is back in town and skating again after two weeks of working with a medical trainer in Slovakia.

"My range of motion is 90 per cent," he said, referring to his surgically repaired shoulder, "as good as it needs to be.

"Strength is the issue now."

Demitra required further surgery this fall from complications that arose after his initial surgery last summer.

He's aiming for a late-January return.
http://communities.canada.com/thepro...g-wounded.aspx

A more detailed article on Demitra's rehab routine and recovery. And his return to action? He hopes to begin contact drills in a couple of weeks then?
Quote:
If all goes well, we'll find out by the end of January.

If things go better than well, it'll be mid-January.

“I don't want to … that's my goal,” Demitra said when pressed on a target for his return. “It could be sooner if nothing [bad] happens.

“I'm just glad everything's going the right way now, but I have to be careful. You don't want to overdo it, you don't want to tweak it again.”
The rehab procedure used in Slovakia sounds unique and it was done with the Canucks blessing according to Demitra:
Quote:
But it was a plan apparently promoted by the Canucks themselves, and not, as had been reported, because Demitra wanted to talk Slovakian to the person rehabbing him.

Demitra first worked with the trainer, who works with the Slovak national men's soccer team, eight years ago when he tore a hamstring while with the St. Louis Blues.

“I was playing soccer within two weeks,” Demitra said of his first encounter.

The medical method involves needles, longer and inserted deeper than acupuncture, that stimulate deep muscle tissue and cause a burning sensation, Demitra said.

There's also a contraption that “sucks” the muscles to loosen them.

“It's a special technique, you almost have to see it,” he said. “He learned it in Russia.”
http://www.theprovince.com/sports/ho...962/story.html

And yet more Pavol - all Pavol, all the time:
Quote:
“It looks like everything is going well,” Demitra said. “Finally, I had a good practice today and a lot of energy. So far, everything is feeling exactly like it's supposed to feel. I'm feeling great. My movement is back to almost normal where I can play. There is still a little bit of pain there but it's just going to take time.

“Obviously it's a disappointing year for me, “ he added. “It's been a long six to seven months just working out and biking. I just want to get healthy and play as soon as possible. I think we are on the right track now.”
...
Demitra first met his specialist in 2001 when he was with the St. Louis Blues and trying to overcome a torn hamstring.

“He put me back together,” Demitra explained. “I've been working with this guy for, like, eight years. He's got a special technique he learned in Russia. You almost have to see it. He's using long needles and putting them in the right points and it kind of feels like it's burning but it loosens up your shoulders and your muscles.

“He also showed me some special taping so it doesn't hold me back but still gives me lots of support. That's what I'm doing now and it's really helped.”

Demitra back on ice and aiming for a January return

Is this a joke?

Would be nice to get him back though.

Excellent news. I really feel that Demitra will be the only possible addition that this team will make this season, so the sooner he gets back the better.

I'm guessing the Canucks bring him back as slow as possible. They'll have to dump someone else off the roster to make room for him, so they'll want to make sure he's 100% healthy.

I agree. I also think Demitra will give the offence that extra spark that it lacks sometimes. And even though the secondary scoring hasn't been bad, it'll just get that much better when Demitra returns.

Hopefully he's hungry after spending so much time dealing with injury.

He's not really that old, despite his injury troubles. If this time off allows him to regain even 75% of his effectiveness from a few years ago, he is a bonafide top-6 player.

With the amount of time he has missed he is very young in hockey years.

Slapshots are very hard on the shoulder so until Demitra starts consistently taking 80mph slappers without pain, I am skeptical that he can resume playing anytime soon.

Any word on Johnson's tests?

Edit: And why is Edler missing from today's lineup?

From the Canucks.com Twitter:

Demitra continues to skate every day without issue. If no further complications he will practice with team after the road trip.

I've heard from very reliable sources that Bieksa sustained a cut tendon which required emergency surgery. I don't know which tendon but I know when I cut the base of my finger (severed the nerve and vein) the Drs and nurses all said how lucky I was that I hadn't cut the tendon. It's been over a year and my finger still bugs me. I have no idea how long recovery is on a cut tendon. Does anyone else?

If you are just going to say "very reliable" then it might be better to just keep ti to youself.

Except that, I can get someone in trouble if I mention where I got the information, and I thought that people might like to know. I've been posting on these boards for a few years now and haven't posted anything controversial. I wanted to let people know what I know to be a fact, and I didn't want to put anyone in an awkward position. You can take the info as you wish. Why would you want me to keep the information for myself?

Also, I should clarify that I shouldn't have said "emergency" surgery, I should've just said surgery as was pointed out in another thread.
