it was actually almost hard to watch, he looked to be in rough shape after that.

It means nothing, AV has a terrible history of calling injuries.

Turns out Rome's head actually fell off in the dressing room. AV later expressed his chagrin that Rome wasn't willing to play through the pain.

Vigneault was interviewed following the game:

"Aaron wants to get another medical opinion other than mine - he can do it if he wants but I do not understand why he would not want to rely upon my medical expertise. My father was a doctor you know.

I think Aaron is a young man who hasn’t had a lot of being steamrollered much throughout his life. He’s probably having a tough time, personally, dealing with this one and trying to find a reason why it happened. We’ve all had times where we’ve encountered disappointment and tried to roll the (blame) in a different direction and in this case he should blame Luongo for giving him a suicide pass. We’ve all been through those things. Aaron will learn from this.”

A headless Rome on the ice would be about the same as what the Canucks had with the waiver wire pick ups made by Nonis a few years ago. Weinrich, Carney etc. were just slightly worse than a headless Rome would be....with the latter having more puck smarts.

Rome is day-to-day with a minor concussion.

Is that interview real, Wetcoaster?

It is a parody combining Vigneault's comments on Willie Mitchell's fractured vertebra and Cody Hodgson when he was sent down.

Source?

If true he's out at least a week. Looks like Lukowich will finally see a game in a Canucks uni.

Expected to play according to Botchford:

Suspend Mitchell for careless use of his stick in slicing open Salo.

Edler set a precedent getting away shooting pucks at faces.

Botchford is reporting the current depth chart after Lukowich is Oberg and then Baumgartner based on a Gillis interview this morning:

Kesler will tell you that beats where O'Brien shoots them.

Brings back memories... and not pleasant ones.

My first year of Junior B we had a D-man who could really fire a puck - we are talking elite pro level shot. Too bad he did not have much skill otherwise. His nickname was "Red" - people could not figure it out as he had black hair. A coach gave him the nickname after someone said when he wound up to take a slap shot it was like watching the Red Sea parting in front of the goalie.

In those days we had wire mesh instead of plexi around the boards. He actually embedded a couple of pucks in the mesh. The only other player who ever was able to do that in the rink was Bobby Hull when the Hawks held their training camp in Victoria one year.

One game I worked a give and go (we did not call it cycling in those days) and went to the net. The puck goes back to the point to Red and I turn looking for a deflection and KAPOW. I went down like I had been shot (you might have thought I was Mike Ribeiro looking for a call) - dented my aluminum cup. I was basically carried off the ice in a foetal position.

I passed blood for a week and was bruised for several more. I walked like a duck. Not a pleasant experience I can assure you.

Would be interesting to see Oberg get some playing time. He had a strong camp and seems to be having a decent rookie season in Winnipeg, even if it is on a team that has been decimated by injuries. Wonder if they'll recall him tonight or tomorrow morning just to be safe in the event Salo is unable to go?

Sucks that Rome is hurt, but it will be nice to see Lukowich finally realize his dream of playing for the Canucks.

I think it's a shame that Mike Funk is out of commission. For the games I've watched the moose, he looked really good.

The Mooses (Meece?) are at home this Friday and Saturday before arriving on the Wet Coast to play the Heat on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Maybe call him Oberg up after tonight's game in Winnipeg and he can re-join the Moose next week when they are in Abbotsford.

Update - called up.

Michael Funk is done for the season, by the way, according to this article: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/spo...-80937847.html

Looks like the concussion issues have almost completely derailed his career to this point, poor guy.
