These are just the end of season rosters from last year. I'll go through each one and see if there are players and prospects from each team that can be left unprotected or need to be protected. Off the top of my head Filatov qualifies for that. I know we'll have at least 8 GMs as of right now. If we don't have everyone filled I won't push like last season, we'll just simply drop the extra few teams. I'm going to be adding the prospect teams before the draft.

Edit: Here's the prospect lists:
Raleigh Llama:
Alexei Cherepanov
Jakub Kindl
Cory Schneider
Rob Schremp
Josh Bailey

How many players are we going to be able to protect on our current teams? I forget how many it was last year.

11 players.

The one rule change regarding the draft I'm thinking of making this year is in regards to players rights. I'm thinking of making it 60 games in order to give teams a bit more time to see their players develop. That would keep situations like Devin Setoguchi from happening again this year, even though someone already lost out on that one. It's something that we have in my other keeper league and it seems to work nicely each offseason. So as long as there are no objections I'd like to see us implement it ourselves

I definitely don't object, 25 games is way too low. You have to basically guess on some players after that many games.

Works for me as well. And yes, I am now EJ's Golf Cart. Bit of a recurring theme I have in fantasy hockey.

2005: Bryan Berard's Eye
2006: Erik Cole's Neck
2007: Gaborik's Groin
2008: Zednik's Throat
2009: EJ's Golf Cart

just a thought since we have multiple new owners. is the last place finisher new? if so, ill throw out the idea that we do an all out lottery for the prospect draft, since such a huge prospect is riding on it. if the old owner is still around, then of course he should get tavares, just saying if its new blood its tough to have someone just walk in and take such a big prize.

I'm not against that if CF/Vagrant isn't around for this year. I think he's back again though so it is probably a moot point.

Here is what we always do in a football league I run (new people are going to get pissed at me for suggesting this): We do the draft order based on the previous year's standings, but anyone new starts at the bottom.

So if i understand the prospect rule correctly....i will have to protect Stamkos.....but the others i dont have to protect to retain their rights because they havent played enough games?

Is there a seperate NHL player draft and Prospect draft?

Yep, two separate drafts. Right now the NHL players one is scheduled for the 24th at 9PM EST.

The prospects one we handle on the boards in this thread.

And yes, you have to protect Stamkos due to games played, but the players listed in your prospects pool you don't have to. I edited them down removing the players that have to be protected and putting them in their respective teams preliminary rosters.

What did we decide to do about KHL players? It didn't effect me last season, so I didn't really pay attention, but with Hudler getting permission to play there, what do I do about it?

Ha...my boy Steve Mason has played in 61 games.

Do we not have a different number for goaltenders? Thought we did, but can't remember now...not that I'm trying to weasel into not having to protect my boy.

I can push it closer to the real league start date (Oct 2nd).

Those games in Europe drive me nuts for stuff like this because either way you do it someone gets screwed.

Just changed it. The latest it would allow me to set it for is the 30th at 9PM. So that's what I put it as.

I'm going to object to this, because this player was not drafted in the prospect draft. I think that has to be a requirement in being able to protect a player.

He was, not sure what happened unless I messed something up when I went through the teams prospect lists to see which players had more then 60GP. Either way just fixed it.

I dug up past season's prospect drafts:
2007 draft: link
2008 draft: link

Interestingly, I found out how I was able to draft Karl Alzner last year in the 4th round: he had been taken in the opening free-for-all draft, but then left unprotected going into the next season. I don't know who drafted him, but maybe he should belong to that team?
