Los Angeles vs. Boston Kings Classic

I guess tonight is Quick's game against Boston this last season. I vaguely remember the game, but I can't honestly remember why it was a classic.

Anyone else watching?

Rarely did he show he was a rookie last season.

lol @ Army. Clueless. Doughty had him set up for a tip and Army was oblivious to it.

Ah, this was the game Murray sat Frolov in the third...or should I say, one of the games.

A sobering reminder that Terry is the only thing about the upcoming season I am not excited about.

Darn, now I really wish I hadn't gone out for a few hours tonight. I would have much preferred to stay home and watch a 'classic' Kings game.

I didn't watch the game but did Fro deserve to be seated? What did he do wrong? Was he the worst one out there?

Forgot his "pleases" and "thank yous" when talking to Terry Murray.

He basically made a blind pass to one of the opponents and gave them a good scoring opportunity.

If you're going to pick a game to rail on TM's decision to bench a player - wait until an example airs that doesn't involve Frolov making a blind pass that directly leads to a goal.

I believe this game put us within about 4 points of a playoff spot at the time? And we did come back against the best team in the league. It was probably the best game we played all season.

Unfortunately we lost about every game the rest of that road trip.

If Murray was actually consistent is his decisions, people wouldn't mind as much. But Murray played favorites and had the Frolov standard. The very next game against Pittsburgh, both Williams and Kopitar had brutal defensive zone turnovers. Very unsurprisingly, Murray didn't bench them.

People that are consistently unhappy with someone feel that way because they consistently do something that they don't like.

TM benching Frolov, not benching Kopitar... in the big picture of what a coach brings to the table, who gives a ****?

Instilling values is important for character development. Teaching and executing solid D wins hockey games. Guess which I value more in a coach?

I think TM does a decent enough job in the former and does a hell of a job with the latter. He also preaches toughness, despises soft play and gives the young guys on the team a boatload of playing time.

TM has done a fine job so far in the areas that matter most. This year I'll expect him to build on the solid D foundation and get the offense going.

Being consistently inconsistent is a huge issue. It devalues the message he's trying to get across.

Also, judging by the posts from last year, lot of Kings fans give a ****, as you so eloquently put it.

Sam,

Theres a difference between Kopitar and Frolov. When Kopitar makes a mistake he's not happy when Frolov does he just smiles and goes back to the bench. What TM is seeing is the lack of caring on Frolovs part. Frolov is the best player on the Kings and when the best player is nonchalant about the game it pisses coaches off. AM also sat Frolov at times as well as Nagy who had great talent but only showed up when he wanted to. Frolov is a happy go lucky guy enjoys the game but its not do or die for him.

TM has an 82% approval rating based on the last poll on this forum, and that doesn't even include the 10% who just think he's "average". http://hfboards.com/poll.php?do=show...s&pollid=38382. That's extremely high given people's insatiable desire to scrutinize coaching at every opportunity.

So while there certainly were several posts on the subject, who Terry Murray benched on a given night certainly did not affect most people's overall opinion of how he's doing his job. In other words, most people don't give a **** - in the grand scheme of things.
