CBJ "Fantasy Owners" Draft Order

EDIT: Draft results in; make your pick for TEH WINNAR! See post #24 below.

Per the latest Puck-Rakers, Hitchcock has decided to get the owners involved in camp in a rather unusual way - each of the four particpates in a "fantasy draft" and the selected squads square off.

So, assuming that Hitch wasn't pulling Portzline's leg, it might kill time to speculate on the draft order. Goaltenders are ineligible (they'll be assigned to teams by the coaches), so Mason's name won't show up (or those of Lacosta or Lalande, for that matter). I think that means there's an easy 1-2 - Nash, Brassard.

Anyone else want to play along?

(yes, the idea's borrowed from one of the comments on that blog post)

I have to admit I'm a little confused. Why Pahlsson so high, in particular? And Why Filatov under Modin?

I'll be dammed; Hitchcock is one smart old dude. He's putting the owners right in the face of a victorious or losing team. He's actually making the owners become a part of the "team" and accountible.

In all my years of NHL hockey I've never heard of such thing suggested by the head coach: Hitch-your a freaking genius.

That said I assume it's a player draft, I'll put up my draft order but with other owners drafting in between no team will equal ones list. Here's my top Jacket list up to 16 players, after that it's just the left overs.

Nash
Hejda
Klesla
Brassard
Filatov
Voracek
Tyutin
Vermette
Umberger
Commodore
Methot
Huselius
Pahlsson
Torres
Russell
Chimera
Dorsett

Edit: how could I forget Commie...it' now my top 17 players not including Mason.

This is a good idea, and may lead to the owners getting more "involved".

It got to me to think, why do owners want to own? Are they all philanthropists, do they feel like they are giving back.

It is definitely not for the investment. Is it for the recognition? Are they super competitive?

With the exception of JPMc, who inherited his position of majority owner, JH McConnell, Pizzuti, Wolfe and Crane, probably knew that they would stand to lose money from the beginning. What makes them want to stay an owner of this team?

I bring this up because the owners are the driving force of the team from a financial standpoint, and it brings them to the forefront for discussion. Without asking these owners directly these questions, we wont know the answers, and maybe someone has asked them.

intersestingly, at a CBJ corp partner event, I was told that JP is actually a bigger hockey fan than his father...I was glad to hear this hoping that it will lead to more investment in the team over time.

That's good to know. Did'nt JP introduce the captains face off before game 3 of the first ever home playoff game. He introduced Lidstrom of the Detroit Blue Devils. Maybe it was nerves.

Here is where JP said that:
-A ceremony for Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock honoring him for recently winning his 500th career game. During his speech, an official from the Blue Jackets referred to a team as "the Detroit Blue Devils."

Hey, I just want to go and enjoy the games. I think they'll be fun and informal, a great way to get back into the swing of the season.

With only three NHL centers on the roster, I see a run on that position early in the draft.

That's more NHL center's than we've had in the past.

Remember the opening night when the 1st line center was Mark Hartigan?

My bet's on Team McConnell. Was already tempted when I saw JPMac managed to get both Vermette and Umberger (both of my favorites), and then I saw the names Hejda and Regner and I knew where my heart was going to be. I think that one's going places.
