Which players were Flyers fans?

Out of curiosity, which other players than Dan Boyle, Bobby Ryan and Dan Carcillo where Flyers fans growing up?

Zac Rinaldo was not a Flyers fan... but his favorite player growing up was Lindros:

Quote:
Despite growing up in the shadow of the world’s largest hockey market, Rinaldo was not a fan of the Maple Leafs, or any other team, in particular.

“I was more into watching the NHL as a fan of the game,” he elaborated. “I loved playing and watching and learning as I moved up in different levels and got more experience.

“The player I liked the most growing up was Eric Lindros,” he continued, despite being only two when “The Big E” debuted with the Flyers back in 1992-93. “Actually, it was kind of special to be drafted by Philadelphia, just because of that.

“[Lindros] was from Ontario and a guy who I loved to watch, because I’ve always enjoyed the big power forwards, the guys who play that physical style with a lot of aggression.”

Tell me... how did Tangradi feel about being asked out by a dude?

If you are including past players, Pelle Lindbergh was a Flyers' fan from the age of ten.

Wasn't he a fan of Bernie? That's in the back of my mind... I know he wore a Parent style mask, as the cage ones were more the norm of the day, IIRC.

He idolized Parent and mimicked his style. Supposedly, he saw the logo on a jersey and that was the genesis of his fascination with the team. Maybe it was the Flying P? Pelle - Philadelphia?

Also, as the story goes, he said something to a teacher along the lines of "I don't need this, I am going to be the Philadelphia Flyers goalie some day." (not an exact quote).

The more I read/watch/learn about Pelle, the sadder I get honestly, a guy who was just so perfect for us.

He's not a Flyers fan, but my friend was telling me about how Matt Duchene has been an Avs fan his whole life. Apparently at the draft, when the Isles picked Tavares, Duchene did a little Coburn fist pump because he knew that meant he'd most likely be picked by the Avs. I guess they interviewed him afterwards, and the kid not only knew what kind of stick every player on the Avs uses, but he also knew the degree of the curve on their respective blades.

I thought that was awesome.

That's pretty funny. It almost makes me want to root for the kid. Almost. I wonder if, deep down, that's how JVR feels about the Flyers, since he was a Rangers fan growing up. I remember him saying in some article that watching the Rangers win the '94 cup, with his Dad, is what made him a rabid hockey/Rangers fan. I know Tangradi and JVR are just happy to be in the NHL, but I'm sure somewhere deep down they wish they had been drafted by their favorite team growing up.

I would assume Sloane was, he grew up in the area and his family's company is a sponsor.

I also remember hearing Gilroy on the Rags was a Flyers fan growing up.

D-man, David Sloan... Son of the Sloan Chevrolet dealership owner... Went to Colgate and played last year on the Flyers on an emergency tryout contract at the end of last season. He grew up following the Flyers and is at this year's Camp.

I'm routing so much for the man to make the team.

Yeah... Him and also Tomas Sinisalo... I think they will have to win AHL contracts though... Only one NHL or two-way one open... and that will probably go to Betts or Bell, IMO.

Sinisalo didn't make the trip so unless he's hurt it's highly unlikely he'll make the team

It would be a miracle for the young Sinisalo to get an NHL contract... based solely on the numbers game... but an AHL contract may not be out of the question, IMO.
