Ducks Prospects in San Antonio

Well the Ducks assigned five players to San Antonio today:

Shawn Weller - Left Wing
Brett Festerling - Defenseman
MacGregor Sharp - Center
Maxime Macenauer - Center
J.P. Levasseur - Goaltender

I'm curious as to hear where you feel these guys will be on the Rampage depth chart.

Wranglers are going to have a lot of Coyote prospects.

Forwards- 2 extra
Maclean Turris Hoggan
Spina Porter Kolarik
Lessard Winnik Orpik
Meyer Perrault Bernhardt
Weller Sharp
Maceenauer

Defense- 5 extra
Schlemko Ahnelov
Heshka Ross
Sullivan Jones
Reese May
Lupashuk* Zimmerman
Festerling Frank

Goalie- 2 extra
Montoya
Tordjman
Gistedt
Levasseur

Nine guys are going somewhere to keep the correct roster#. This is also not including additional Duck prospects that may be sent down, try-outs, or the unexpected demotion/promotion. I don't know anything about the Duck prospects. Anyone know if the Duck prospects can be sent to the Wranglers? That may effect whether or not guys that should be in the AHL are in Vegas instead.

Couple of thoughts on your post crazy...

Reese is no longer in the organization. He signed a PTO with Syracuse in August.

Gistedt will start the year in Vegas, I believe. He was awful last year and needs a lot more time. I see Montoya winning the backup job in Phoenix and it should be JT and JP in SA.

Not sure on Ross, but if he is eligible, I see him doing one more year in juniors.

Well I can tell you that the Ducks prospects that don't make the Rampage should be sent to Bakersfield because we still have an affiliation with them. My guess is Sharp and Weller and possibly even Macenauer are probably the best bets for that happening looking at the roster you posted. Festerling is a solid D-man and could be your best shutdown guy. He could have made the team if not for the acquisition of Steve Eminger a couple of weeks ago.

Long will probably spend more time in Vegas than San Antonio I'm guessing. Or atleast razzle dazzle down there for awhile until getting a call up to the A.

Long hasn't been signed - although unlikely its still possible he could play his overage year in the dub.

Lupaschuk was released today.

Just to see if he can break the hundred and twenty point mark, for free?

I don't know if he'll make the Rampage. He'll likely be a decent AHLer, sooner than later, I would think. I very much doubt that he'll ever be an NHLer. Then again, he's shown in the past that he's capable of making huge strides, seemingly out of nowhere. At only twenty years old, there's certainly the potential for him to do it again.

The best spot for him is SA but the whoever signs the cheques needs to sign off on signing Long. Depending on how long the debacle lasts, the decision could be made to delay decisions such as inking Long until the dust settles.

...and yet we were able to re-sign Upshall, Yandle, Winnik, ect. As well as sign Fiddler, Aucoin, LaBarbera and Pyatt while also trading Lisin, Fedoruk, and Hale for Vrbata and Korpikoski. We also offered Tanguay the same deal Tampa did. Clearly we're allowed to make moves.

Matt Beleskey, Dan Sexton and Timo Pielmeier were cut from the Ducks camp today and sent to SA.

It's an interesting situation for sure. The Ducks sent some players to Manitoba as well so they arent just blindly shoving them into SA but it seems like there's way too many players down there already with more cuts to come i'm sure.

Effed up situation alltogether.

Timo Pielmeier, J.P. Lavasseur, Josh Tordjman, Joel Gistedt, and one of Montoya or LaBarbera, huh? Man. Then again, Montoya would have to be waived to be sent down, I believe. I doubt he would pass through. Also, we probably aren't to interested in paying LaBarbera NHL money to play in the AHL. So perhaps if Montoya steals LaBarbera's NHL spot, we'll look to move LaBarbera, somehow. Maybe we can package him with a guy like Perrault or Winnik to a team with deeper pockets that doesn't mind paying JLB to hide in the minors, but wants to get their hands on a guy like Winnik(who probably wouldn't clear waivers, anyway). Maybe something like JLB, Perrault, and Winnik for some kid playing in the ECHL. Sucks to lose Winnik, but he's probably gone anyway, and we'd be able to rid ourselves of two AHLers with NHL contracts. I could see Colorado maybe liking the idea of adding just a little bit of insurance goalie depth, considering out tenous their situation in goal is. Plus, I could see Winnik possibly cracking their line-up. They're also a Western Conference team so they've probably scouted Winnik a little more, and he's a pretty good player.

Those moves had a shorter time frame attached to them - with Long the "best before" date lasts until next summer.

Macenauer still has a year of QMJHL eligibility. Playing in the Q would probably be better than ECHL.

I'll translate for you - the signings you referenced had to happen at the time they did, there was no alternative to defer those transactions.

Long's rights can be maintained until his signing deadline (the "best before" date - maybe drop dead date would have been a better analogy/reference )

Put another way - the signings and trade you mentioned would have "gone stale" and not been available if not "exercised" at the time.

Maybe I'll cut down on the analogies/double speak.

Think milk or bread or really anything with an expiration date.

I just had no idea we had another whole year to sign Long. Otherwise, I might have been about to contect the dots. Well, maybe not.
