Please, please, please, get back in the NHL--we need a dummy to make lopsided trades with.

What a GREAT sideshow those two would be

I am thinking that they should have kept this on the DL until Balsillie actually got the team. I don't think this is going to be seen as a positive for the Balsillie camp.

Finally some good news for the fans in Phoenix.

If they do lose their team, they won't have to watch it prosper in another city...

And now, a summary of Viqsi Reactions To This News:

Oh, Balsillie. It just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Further proof that we need to keep Balisillie out of the NHL.

Youre right, anyone willing to spend $242m on an NHL team is pretty much smoking crack

Match made in heaven. Zherdev would have a new contract in about 10 minutes after the 'Yotes were purchased.

Thank goodness we signed Nash before this deal got done. We would have lost Nash for sure!

This situation just gets more amusing every day.

Twelve-year contract with $8M+ cap hit. I doubt anything less would get Zherdev willing to go back to the days of getting yelled at by the GM between periods.

And just because we signed Nash doesn't mean he can't be traded.

I really hope this gets done and I really hope Hamilton gets realigned to the Central Division. This would be sooo excellent!

I'm on Balsillie's side with this issue, it's going to sound mean, but I hope Phoenix does move. I don't know if Hamilton is the right spot, I'd prefer Winnipeg, but I know Canada can support a hockey team way better than Arizona can. They'll be just fine with the Suns, Cardinals, and Diamondbacks. And who else is going to overpay for a crappy team the way Balsillie is? No one.

To quote another who's made the point... let he who would move a team first move his own.

I could go into extensive detail as to why I do not want Balsillie as an owner, but for now I'll leave it at "the man can't be trusted not to run the League into the ground for his own gain."

Incidentally, since this seems to have become an unofficial "discuss Balsillie" thread... I have TSN's Cover It Live coverage of the court proceedings (see http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=290588) open, and the latest update (as of this writing) caught my interest:
Quote:
1:24 Baum mentions the possibility that neither the NHL or PSE [Balsillie's group] would win the auction, with the chance that no sale goes through.
If y'all hear wild laughter coming from the New Albany/Gahanna area, then you know that this was the outcome of the day.

from a fan who obviously doesn't like Balsillie...

Quote:
So please join me in welcoming Doug MacLean to our team. Take a bow, Doug.

Doug single-handedly made sure that the Columbus Blue Jackets not only sucked on the ice, but were a laughing-stock and a pariah in the community as well. He could quite easily be the worst executive in all of hockey - and that includes that weird Russian league where players just randomly die on the ice. Better yet, Doug doesn't know he is a complete failure, and thinks that he is being hired for his hockey "knowledge", so we can all get a good laugh every time he opens his big stupid mouth and says something moronic in that big stupid voice of his.

Hamilton and Doug MacLean - it's like they were made for each other.

Hmmm, this looks oddly familiar, though I don't know where I've seen it before...

[Portzline] Good for MacLean if it happens. He's obviously trying desperately to get back into the NHL in a manager's capacity. Turn him loose in a Canadian market with an owner dead-set on spending up to the salary cap, and ... look out! Should be interesting.

Exactly. Balsillie's running roughshod over the best interests of the league are enough to tell you he is not to be trusted. Let him step up and buy a team without trying strong arm bankruptcy court tatics.

This whole thing is like a soap opera. The biggest concern I have (if it all happens) is the new division lineup. As for MacLean, got to give him credit for not quitting but I'll be surpised if he puts a winning team on the ice. Perhaps he will take Modin off our hands since he was the one who traded for him and extended his contract.

I can see it now. Something along the lines of:

To PHX: Modin
To CBJ: Mueller, Jovanovski, 1st

...would be fairly on-par, right?

Thank Worst Faceoff Manuver in the Preds boards.

As for your thread, the only way I'd ever consider Balls as an owner is if he forms a STRONG ownership group to dilute his voice filled with character people.

BallSilly could team up Jesus, Ghandi and Mother Teresa and the group would still be in trouble character wise.

So, I heard this morning that a decision by the judge could happen today, or tomorrow.

If Balsille wins this does he have to spend this season in Phoenix, or does he whisk them off to Hamilton for this season?

I've read he may try a mid season (or soon into the season) move. Imo that would be a disaster and not possible due to the schedule etc. Yet, I'm led to believe the PHX arena lease will be an issue as well. Who knows....
