Ian White & Wendel Clark at FutureShop(Dundas/Yonge) for NHL 2010 release

I only heard about this earlier today, unfortunately I'll be in Newmarket the whole day

Quote:
Futureshop has teamed up with EA Sports to throw "Midnight Madness" launch parties at Toronto and Vancouver this Monday, September 14. This event is being held for the release of EA's NHL 2010. NHL legend Wendel Clark and current Leaf's defencemen, Ian White will be greeting fans and signing autographs in Toronto. Former captain of the Vancouver Canucks, Trevor Linden will be present in Vancouver.

Microsoft is also taking part in the event as it will present a NHL 10 demo hours before released. See below for the details of each event:

At Futureshop Toronto (325 Yonge St. at Dundas):

Ian White: 9:00pm to 11:00pm

Wendel Clark: 10:00pm to Midnight

At Futureshop Vancouver (798 Granville St. at Robson):

Trevor Linden: 9:00pm to 11:00pm

Stores will open from 12:00am to 1:00am. It is great to see a lot of fan service being provided for the release of a game for Canada's most popular sport.

Man, you Canadian don't know how good you have it. Best sport in the world, and the players/legends are signing video games.

Well done. I bet '10 wont be out in Australia for a few weeks.

It features a new fighting mode where, according to reviews, the fights only last two or three seconds.

Sounds like Wendel is the perfect spokesman.

Agreed. They need to toss Dale Mitchell in there. Show him the ropes of Mustache promotion.

The fights last longer than that, however, there is the possibility of that happening which is nice. The fighting is alot better than it has been, not that it's a big factor for me. All you need to know about this game is one legitemit review said this and I quote. "NHL 10 is the best hockey game ever made and it could be the best sports game of all time, it's at least in the conversation."

That's alot of hype but i believe it because NHL 09 was the best sports game of the year. It just wont get the attention it deserves just because it obviously doesnt match the popularity of other sports in states.

Do they still have the "two fights per game" limit, or can you have games that get out of hand with lots of fights now?

EA has had a three-fight-per-game limit for as long as I can remember, BUT, I got into four fights in the demo. A buddy and I tested it out after the third fight and we managed to get a fourth one going (so easy off a face-wash). My guess is it was just for the demo but you never know.

You can start scrums after the play by hitting or slashing opponents, which can either lead to penalties or fights. This is good for realism, but bad in the sense where I used to love running other players head first into the boards after the play with no consequences at all.

They're really playing up the fighting and physical play this year, so I'd be surprised if the fights were capped at any specific number.

It's kind of funny that they make you fight Gonchar in the demo.

The evolution of the NHL series has been amazing. I've been playing these games since NHLPA 93, and there were quite a few duds along the way.

NHL 08 improved upon so much, mostly the AI, and then in 09 with the addition of the EASHL it just took off. Playing as yourself online, playing your own position for the whole game. FTW. Of course, there were some glitches that ended up ticking me off after a couple of months, seeing as these glitchers had no interest in emulating real hockey, and instead would exploit everything possible just to score. I hope glitches are at least lessened in 2010.

As these games are growing in popularity and recognition in the states, I wonder if it will cause for more players to become fans of the sport. I don't see why it wouldn't do more for the sport in the states than anything Bettman has tried, especially among the youngin's.
