It's still running on the bottom line of Sportscenter and it's still on their website.

And the attitude is much appreciated. You must be a real charmer.

Perhaps from Ottawa management? Could they be the ones who are leaking BS rumors to try to get some GM to react (or overreact)?

Those of you who covet Heatley have a screw loose. Look at all of the teams knocking down Murray's door trying to acquire him. Anaheim put a 35 year old Chris Pronger on the market and got 3 first round picks and a top 6 forward knowing they had to fork over major dollars to lock up a 35 year old player which means the money is not coming off their cap even if Pronger retires. Murray would give his left nut for the package Anaheim received for Pronger.Heatley is 7-8 years younger than Pronger. Tell us genuis why don't teams want Heatley?

I know all of the GM's running NHL teams are morons for not pursuing Heatley

Just because they Flyers made a stupid deal for an old man, doesn't mean you can use that as a sane argument

Well, you can still make that argument. And this isn't the first time Pronger has been traded for a ransom. And don't forget that one of those times was on a trade demand as well. It didn't take this long, there was tons of interest and no one ran around calling him a cancer.

The point is, even though at least one team was 'dumb enough' in your opinion to trade for that 'old man', not one of the 29 teams is willing to acquire Heatley even though some around here believe he is more valuable than Pronger. Value isn't determined by bloggers and messageboarders, it is determined by trades. Maybe Sather is off his game at this age. Maybe Philly is insane for trading for Pronger. But when 30 GMs, with their thousand years of collective experience feel like Heatley isn't worth it, you have to figure they are on to something.

I know you are speaking tongue in cheek, but I just saw your statement as a good springboard for the argument.

Oh great, just when we though all this Heatley crap was over and done with (until next time he demands a trade anyways).

Anyways, now that the deal fell through maybe Rangers can get something done here. How does Heatley for Roszival, Dubinsky and McDonagh sound???

I don't know how much of it is a San Jose station trying to make a story, but there was a sports station that basically said "the Sharks contacted us before we could even report this and said that it's not true, no deal is done...but it could be soon"

Which is pretty interesting...personally I'd just like to see this go through so that Eklund gets egg on his face

You are confusing a 'stupid' deal with a 'risky' one. Yeah sure Philly overpayed big time for Pronger but if they win the Cup they'll have the last laugh and it'll be worth giving up all those picks.

It's stupid because that's not why they can never win the cup. C-list goalies are their problem for the last 15 years. Until they fix that, they aren't winning the cup.

Yeah, I mean, who doesn't want this team to be in further cap hell!!!!

Not to mention we'd have even bigger gaps in the spot then before. Everyone on this board is so willing to trade Rosival. So instead of 2 holes in the defense, we're left with 3 or 4, with little to no cap space, and possibly forcing us to bring up that many rookies? That makes no sense.

And lets not forget how weak we are at Center.

Also, I kinda laugh when people say 'this guy is/isn't a Tort's guy" but for God's sakes, HEATLEY WOULD GET EATEN ALIVE BY TORTS!!!!

After this year. Show Redden the door to the Wolfpack, and you have money for Staal and other guys.

how about we develop our young guys instead of having 3 guys making 7 million a year and 1 making 6.5 million a year. If Mcdonagh and our other defensive prospects live up to their potential we will have the best defense in the NHL. The problem is some fans don't want to look to the future, they look at now. Look what happened in the past when we signed free agents. We sucked, we had no good young players. The same people that want the Heatley trade will be *****ing in a few years because we don't have a young core. Look at the teams that have won the past few seasons: all of their key guys were homegrown whether it be the pens (crosby/malkin), the ducks (getzlaf, mcdonald, kunitz), Red Wings (Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Datsyuk), and the Lightning (st. louis, vinny).

Yup! Too many people that are star-struck and not conscientious enough about the salary cap and how it affects how your roster long term...

Oh and don't forget Corry Perry for the Ducks

What long term? The new CBA is already in works, I am sure.

There's a pretty big difference between "in the works" and in place. Until it's approved you gotta go by the rules of the current CBA.
