All this comparison got me thinking, which player do you guys think is better?
Forget the age, salary, FA status or homegrown factor. Yes, detach yourself from Frolov and simply tell me which player is the better player right now.
And if you can't detach your feelings from Frolov, we know which political party you belong to.
Marleau is the overall better player, although not by much. But, more importantly, this team would benefit more from having a very good second-line center than an elite LW for the Handzus line, which is evidently where Murray wants to play Frolov. So Marleau by an inch on paper and by a yard given the impact that he (due to his position and the way he'd be used by management) would have on this team.
It's a close race right now but I voted for Marleau. I like the shots on goal, I like the points from last season, I like the 5 short handed goals playing with Scuderi and Greene on the PK and I like the 10 game winning goals. Like Frolov or not the writing is on the wall for his fans to brace themselves that he looks like he will be traded sooner rather than later. Unless of course he starts the season like his hockey pants are on fire then he's in line for an extension.
NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO NONO NO!!!! DONT DO IT DEAN CLOSE THE BOX ITS NOT WORTH IT fro and stoll leaves us with one fatty hole then we owuld sign a filler and we all know what happens when dean signs a filler a 4 year rebuilding process just dont unless they plan on getting kessel or something just no
Fro. I simply don't want Dean's garbage or man-crush on this team anymore.. Enough is enough.. If and when DL gets fired after his five year stay, we'll be left with bunch of his players (not the players he picked during Kings era) on Kings roster..
One thing bothering me a lot is pegging Fro with Hanzus.. It is a waste of talent imo.
Biggest issue with Frolov is him picking up his game and taking it to the level everyone expects, he needs to get on the horse and maybe if he survives not being traded before the season starts then all this BS will be the fire he needs lit under his ass
Having watched Marleau for years, I will say that tools-wise Marleau is the superior player. He's got a far better shot and is a far better skater. But for some reason he's never been a dependable go-to player and can't quite dominate a game like Frolov occasionally can. He's so far been a 60 pt player that can be helped up to a point-per-game. He still has many good years ahead of him and he may one day put everything together, but he may just be a poor man's Mike Gartner.
And for the people thinking that it would be good to have Marleau as a second line center, I think it's been determined that he's a much better LW than C. Otherwise the Sharks would have been able to run a ridiculous center rotation of Thornton, Marleau, and Pavelski.
I think that Frolov for Marleau is essentially a net wash in terms of overall value, but the chemistry disrupted alone makes it not worth doing.
A side note: my friend got his Sharks season tickets today and the tickets have pictures of popular Sharks on them. There's Thornton, Clowe, Pavelski... but no Marleau.
Weve seen what Frolov could do with the Kings. Weve seen what Marleau can do with the Sharks. The thing that worries me about the impact Marleau could potentially have here is that he wont have Thornton as a center. His best years have come with him playing on Thorntons wing.

He's only played on Thornton's wing ONE season (last) and statistically, his best season was when he was playing center for the 2nd line (the season Thornton came aboard). He himself has said many times he prefers playing center to wing.
