Great story if the man sticks and even scores 10 goals.

I always liked his style of play and I admire his courage. Reminds me of Rocky Balboa where he has to get his demons out of the basement one last time just to know its over.

He went through some very dark periods in his life and fought his demons. I hope he doesnt hurt himself.

If he makes the FLames roster it really says something about their forward depth.

How exactly is this being desperate ? Calgary is giving him a shot at making the team... if he isn't good enough to play on the flames roster then he doesn't get a contract.

Agreed. Good on them for giving him a shot (ok I have complimented Calgary enough now, time to move on)

It is. Why do they need a guy like him to come try out? To teach guys to go to strip clubs and pound bottles of liquor?

Calgary is probably doing it because of all the attention we are getting for Comrie. This is their way of throwing a tantrum and addressing their insecurity.

Kinda like their hiring of a coaching staff to compete with the all-star staff we hired. Or entering their bid in spite for that big worldwide event we were trying to get. I would even go so far as to say signing J-Bo after we went for Heatley but J-Bo was a no brainer.

Sad, sad Calgary.

Well, tossing him in the AHL and calling up for the playoffs might not be such a bad idea. Could give the team the extra spark much like Lanny being added at the trade deadline worked out for them those oh so many moons ago. If Theo can keep his head on straight for one season this might be the season to do it.

Call it a mid-life crises. Everyone goes through it to some degree.

He's also written another book; coming out in the not too distant future.

He did TRY and play competitive hockey last season in the Allan Cup...based on what I saw from him out there...he isn't close to being NHL capable.

Sounds like this comeback is motivated by money though so I'm sure Fleury will take what he can get.
Actually, I think it's motivated by arrogance. The guy thinks he can actually come back and play.

Presumably he is familiar with the 12 step recovery process. The first step is to go from denial to acceptance. He needs to accept that at 41 years of age and 4 years out of hockey, he no longer has it. But his arrogance won't let him.

Agreed.

His 'hard luck story' does require a degree of empathy.

But...

When he was playing Senior AAA hockey he seemed to have fun on a few shifts when things went totally his way...but....the he spent mpost of his ice time circling the play hoping for a lucky bounce to spring him.

Any time he might have to move his feet or make / take an honest check he ducked out of the play or took a penalty.

He's all the classic symptoms of a floater, and he's so pompous and over-confident...he was oblivious to how poor his over all game was!

You always find something negative with the Oilers. Had the Oilers invited Fluery to TC, you'd be criticizing them for it. Since it's the Flames, once again you praise them. Enough already.
