First impression: Bad trade for SJ.

Good trade for the Kings....because they're not involved!

Hopefully SJ will have issues in the room.

Heatley-Thornton-Setoguchi vs. Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry vs. Frolov-Kopitar-Williams

Really? I think it's a good trade for them. And looking at the SJ board, most seem pretty happy. They really didn't want to lose Marleau apparently.

Sharks lose depth in the bottom six but improve their top six which is more important.

Thornton,Heatley,Marleau,Pavelski,Setoguchi and Clowe is possibly the best top-six in the league. Their power play won't be suffering too much with Boyle and Blake on the blueline.

San Jose just got better if you ignore Heatley's character. Barring injuries, I see Heatley reaching 50 playing alongside Thornton.

San Jose would have liked to ditch Cheechoo's salary anyways so basically it's Michalek and a 2nd for Heatley.

Would anyone here have done Frolov,Stoll and a 2nd straight up for Heatley? Frolov is better than Michalek but the UFA status tips it in Michalek's favor; Stoll is a better producer than Cheechoo at this point and a LA 2nd is worth more than a SJ 2nd.

Well, probably more of the bolded if you simply match LA's 1st line against those two.

Well, our top line is obviously inferior on paper to the Ducks and Sharks. Our 2nd line too. I'm hoping the extra work Kopitar put in this summer pays off.

I'm also hoping Murray doesn't go crazy juggling the lines.

Dallas has 2 pretty formidable top lines as well.

Cheechoo was expendable, SJ comes out on top of this but they'll still choke in the 1st round.

Dallas top 6:
Ribeiro, Morrow, Richards, Neal, Eriksson, Ott?
Sounds right?

Haven't been following but it wouldn't surprise me to see Jamie Benn crack that lineup much like Neal last season, thus pushing Ott down a line.

There's also Brunnstrom to consider. Louie Eriksson is a hell of a player too...

Jeez. I think that's a great trade for the Sharks... bad trade for the Kings. Hopefully losing Michalek makes them softer than they think. Also, as disappointing as Cheechoo was, I seem to remember him being one of only two players (along with Pavelski) who seemed to give a hoot in the playoffs against Anaheim. Hopefully that hurts them somehow too. Or maybe just Heatley gets hurt. Maybe Matt Greene hurts Heatley. Maybe Heatley sucks. Maybe... maybe... damnit.

Their top 6 is ridiculous. And you have to think an appeased Heatley is a (at least temporarily) happy Heatley, so I think the character questions will be on the backburner for at least a year. I do see Heatley having a big rebound year, but I think the trade isn't necessarily the reason for that. Thornton is an (maybe *the*?) elite playmaker, but it's not like Heatley was playing with slouches in Ottawa. Spezza gets a lot of crap, but I have a hard time believing that moving from Spezza to Thornton will trigger a gigantic offensive explosion.

Frolov, Stoll, 2nd for Heatley would be fun in a vacuum, but the character questions/trade demands influence things...

What do you have against Marleau? I think he'd be a great fit.

You can't blame a team for trying to get better, but damn i'd be secretly upset if I was a sharks fan. This is what happens when a team is expected to win it all and gets stressed to win. The players, management, even the fans feel the pressure and everyone overreacts in a way. I hope this doesn't happen to this Kings core. Their team is full of veteran all-stars that have at one point had their heart or compete levels questioned.

But hey, atleast SJ fans are stressed to get out of the 1st round and win the cup, while we're stressing to make the playoffs.

It is funny that they seem to think offense was their problem all these years.

Even with Heatly they're still the same team. Anaheim would never have allowed it, but if SJ got a guy like Pronger then they're the team to beat. They need a leader ala the Pronger,Smyth,Richards mold.

This is an obvious bump to Heatley's fantasy value.
