Im really glad San Jose got Heatley because though Ottawa got a great player in Michalek, they are worse overall and San Jose was my #1 team last year from start until yet another disappointing playoffs so of course Heatley making them a better team helps

I have to say, Ottawa to ripped off big time on this deal lol

Whats the chance Cheecho can regain even a fraction of his 50 goal scoring season he had with Thornton?

I say he is lucky to reach 30 ever again.

I think this is good for both teams. OTT loses a bit in offense, but only if Cheechoo can't score 25. No matter how much he scores, he is going to be a pain in the ass to us. He's not just a goal scorer, he can also forecheck and reak havoc on defenders. In the playoffs he was a pain in the ass for Pronger. I'm sure he can stir the dirt with our defense. Michalek will no doubt play with Spezza and leave Kovalev to play with Alfredsson. This deal gives OTT 2 scoreing lines which they've needed, and makes SJ once again a seriously powerful offensive team. If Jumbo Joe can't play in the post season with Heater, he is truely a bust. Spezza did well with him and I think Joe is a better player then Jay.

Intereting enough, the two players to which I have the closest ties are now playing on the same team. I'd love to see Heatley and Thornton light it up together. They should be dynamite.

I guess at the end of the day there was really no way Ottawa was going to win that trade. But i'm happy to see him out west, that's for sure.

It was the Heatley - Thornton combo that Canada was heavily relying on last Olympics, right?

How does this impact SJ cap-wise, I'd think this would impact Marleau a little bit.

Its finally over.

Glad to see the Sens being ripped off. I doubt Heatley will get the sharks any closer to their end goal though. Dumping Heatleys contract was a huge plus for the Sens.

this is great! the leafs and sabres will slowly emerge as tops in the northeast along the b's...the habs and sens will slowly emerge to the bottom of the northeast. the cycle has begun...wow honestly, murray looks like a tool here...he should have been bold about heatless the way burkie was with kabs and make the cry baby sit.

A hugh sigh of Cap Relief coming out of the Nation's Capital.

Big improvement for the team in Ottawa, even with the trading off of goals.

Milan Michalek
Left Wing
Born Dec 7 1984 -- Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Rep.
Height 6.02 -- Weight 225 -- Shoots L

Three 20+ goal seasons before age 25.

Cheechoo is the Stempniak in this deal.

Cheechoo is much more useful than Stempniak. After his scoring drought he showed his effectiveness at back-checking and such in an energy player role.

Thornton - Heatley, who would have guessed a few years ago the Sharks would have stolen both these guys.

Top line.... Setoguchi - Thornton - Heatley?

Now that I think about it, the Sens lines are looking deep.

Alffie, Spezza, Cheechoo, Michalek, Fischer, Kovalev, St. Pierre and Foligno.

Should have a nice top 6 this year.

I would not be to quick to write off ottawa.THis deal does improve them a bit up front they now have 2 solid lines and the 3rd line could be solid as well.

Great for us. Heatley really killed us.

As for the deal, it all depends on Chechoo i believe. If he can go back to 20-30 or 20-40 its an okay deal for the Sens. Other than that, the Sharks win this for now.

I believe this is an awesome trade for the Sens. This gives them two lines instead of that one Heater-Spezza-Alfredsson line.
They'll be able to rotate easier and not focus on 3 main guys.
Michalek could be a 30 goal scorer playing along with Spezza and Alfredsson.

Cheechoo was just part of the deal as a salary dump and will probably end up on the 3rd line in Ottawa.

I'm just glad Heatley's out of the division.
