Haha what an unclassy money hungry fool. New York would be stupid to have taken him back after he pretty much spat on the contract he is now trying to accept. Too late buddy, that ship has sailed and most likely towed another 26 ships with it. I doubt any team is interested anymore, but I will give him a bit of respect cause it seems he does really want to play in the best league in the world and hasn't run off to play in Russia yet.

Regardless of the situation, I would have loved to have him back. He'd improve our team if we could fit him under the cap.

The only possible reason that Zherdev would go back to the Rangers is that no other team would give him that amount of money.
Oh, then nhlnumbers is ****ing with me again.

Shane O'Brien would seem like a nice fit on any team though. Especially if your female attendance is suffering.

He would improve any team he's on. Just unfortunate that he's so greedy.

Atleast this means he would rather stay in the NHL rather than any other league like the KHL, show somewhat good commitment. To the league, not his team.

Burke, where art thou?

Taking a chance on this guy wouldn't hurt at all. Kessel, and Zherdev would be .

Exactly. brooks is not the most trustworthy reporter. he has a reputation of stretching the truth in favor of making his rangers look better.

I bet you won't say that about Kessel if he ends up a leaf would you?

They both have the same thing in common - holding out for every last penny they can get.

Yeah, Brian Burke is going to offer Nik Zherdev a contract. In the bizarro world, maybe.

No. Once you reject your teams offer, your rights are released, and you go talk to other teams, it's no longer taking less pay to stay with "your team".

It's possibly (has anyone heard of any better KHL offers?) taking less pay to stay in the league.

If Kessel becomes a Leaf, I'm sure there will be plenty of good folks around here to remind us of all his character flaws.

Agent's have seemingly lost their mind this off-season. This type of problem is becoming an epidemic. I'm going to say the M word, malpractice...

Yea, i agree that Zherdev isn't a Burke type player, but he did say that he wants skill on his top 6. And Zherdev has skill. If Burke does deals away two first for Kessel, getting Zherdev could make up for one of those firsts.

2010 first = Kessel

2011 first = Zherdev

In the end, we would lose the player we would draft with the 2010 2nd.

That's hows i think he should go. But you are right, the chances of Burke signing him are remote.

Since when was Burke going to throw away 2 1st round draft picks?

Sucks for Zherdev. He thought he was worth more, so he walks away thinking he'll get offers on the market, gets jack, and now has nowhere to go. He just thought he was worth too much.

He needs sign a 1-year deal for cheap somewhere and try to prove himself worthy of a decent contract.

I doubt Burke will, but he should at least think it over. Z could play on the Top 6, and cost him nothing to acquire except a couple mil which MLSE can easily spare

Well I admit you got me on that one. The only thing I can say is that at least kessel is holding out for what he is worth.

Kessel at 4.5 - 5.5 > Zherdev at 3.5-4

How is trying to get as much money as possible for your services greedy? No one would call the average joe greedy for asking for a large raise.

He(his agent) just over estimated what his services are worth and it came back to bite him in the ass.

maybe if he offered to come back for a million because he realized he's an idiot Glen would do it. Seems odd that he just doesn't go back to Russia, I'm sure some team would get some decent scratch together for him, if only for the PR of "we got another one back from the NHL!"

Even having him back for a million we'd have to somehow alleviate the glut at forward via trade, or else hartford is going to be stacked with some vets, not necessarily the most desirable thing when we are trying to develop some young guys.

Instead of just signing the QO,he files for salary arbitration and gets awarded $3.9 million. The Rangers walk away and Zherdev find crumbs available on the free agent market. So his agent Rolland Hedges calls the Rangers and offers to play for the same $3.25 million they scoffed at 2 months ago.

Dominic Moore is another finalist for that award. If Moore's agent Larry Kelly called Brian Burke to accept his 3 years/$5.1 million offer in the last few weeks, then Moore gets the award.
Why would ZHerdev be the idiot? Do you know how many agents screw their clients over like this? Plenty, then people hate on the players. If Shero can move Dupuis + Godard (replace them with Kennedy back on the 3rd line with Cooke & Staal and Wallace on the 4th line or Bissonnette) then for 3m/yr for 1yr or more would be pretty damn good, move him to right wing and the 2nd line is solved.
