You do. Prospal gets buyout money so his VALUE is higher by more than a million.

Why don't we send ALL good players to KHL and settle for less expensive second tier folks???

That was 1 shot. Not a whole game. A great shot; hell it was his best of the season. And he was good in that game.

But dominant? No.

You are aware that the KHL only plays 56 regular season games. So you are putting stock in Zherdev scoring more points in 56 games versus Prospal in 82? Barring an injury I don't see that happening. Alexander Radulov put up 48 points in 52 games last season and I wouldn't expect Zherdev to score any more than that.

I initially interpreted it as Prospal scoring more points than Zherdev last year. I'm intrigued to see what the actual bet is.

Doesn't matter. This would be KHL. No Torts to place him together with Korpikoski and Sjostrom as per Slats request. Z would be their Gaborik primadonna type. No hard practice, everyone gives you a puck. He scores tons of goals there. Then uses his stats next year to impress NHL brasses.

It's not about money. It's about recognition. But since there is no better recognition than money, it's about money.

You are aware that most teams didn't have the CAP space to fit 4 larges one at the time his arby case was decided, right? Don't let the facts get in the way

Unfortunately... You lack the ability to see the other options.

I could just waive Kotalik. I would trade Kotalik if there was someone but chances are there are not. Why are these not an option?

Huh? You're going to waive Kotalik before he even plays one game for this team? Well that sounds like a splendid idea

KHL = tax free $$$ so in the end, he may be making out with more mullah. Kotalik better rock this season. He's ripe for Garden Boo-birding.

It's about icing the best team,

This year I would take Zherdev and a few years down the road I'm sure we would both agree on Zherdev being the better player (Barring any serious injuries...)

So although it sucks that we would have to waive or trade Kotalik... At the end of the day the better player is on the ice.

Be prepared for free agents to not sign with the Rangers then.

Im aware that if Zherdev was really as dynamic as most toe-drag lovers around here would try to make you believe, 1 of the other 29 teams in the league would have made room for him. And 4 large ones? He went back to the Rangers begging for 3.25. Few negotiations in ANYTHING have been more botched than whats happened to Zherdev over the last couple of months.

You have the audacity to tell me that I lack the ability to see other options, and then you suggest trading or waiving Kotalik before he ever plays a game for the Rangers? I apologize that I was looking at the situation logically based on all thats happened over the last couple of months.

Can you even trade a player you just signed to a free agent contract before X amount of days? I'm positive that in MLB you cannot do this and I'm going to assume the NFL and NBA have a similar rule. I doubt that's even an option.

Simple. Because the KHL is a second tier league that players go to when they are effectively out of NHL options. The fact of the matter is that we can name on one hand players in their primes who opt to play in the KHL. Zherdev himself is proof of this. He did everything in his power to stay in the NHL - including crawling on his knees to Glen Sather.

The alarmism that surrounds the KHL makes me laugh.

Agree 100%. And any attempt to portray it any other way is purely agenda driven. The NHL has it's obvious faults and the KHL may one day become actual competition (I doubt it though) but that day is not here. For now they'll survive on a steady diet of eastern european players that are past their NHL prime looking to prolong fat pay-days and the chance to play closer to home and mid to low level NHLers with something to prove that are marketable as "NHL" talent.
