Disgustingly sick deal. The market totally tanked, 1.6 for someone like Sykora, wow. Absolute steal.

Good. I grew tired of watching him in Pittsburgh last year. He's soft & old. He could still score about 20 goals, but he doesn't do enough else to be worth having anymore, imo. Geno & Sid couldn't get him to 30 goals and I don't think anybody on Minny can either. He's a good team guy and brings some leadership etc. Not sure the Wild are lacking that, but that's mostly all he'll bring at this point.

Congrats Minnesota...you now have what? 6 2nd line players and maybe 2 1st line players?

Second line, Brunette, Nolan, Pouliot, Bouchard, Sykora, Clutterbuck (maybe third line), Sheppard...

1st line - Havlat, Koivu...

Oi...Welll...that'll be an interesting roster.

So much hate from someone who obviously isn't taken into consideration one time that this team is still in a rebuilding year and they have 8 UFA's and 5 RFA's. The market was already bought up and we had zero cap playable room because of a former GM's numbnut ass overpaid for a goalie because he sat on it too long and overpaid for 60% of the players this team is finally shedding itself from. Sykora is signed to a one-year deal. Not 12 like some other teams have taken the liberty of doing with practically any decently talented player to get around cap room.

But I hope this team goes to the playoffs and pulls of a 2003 miracle again where they take down 2 of the best teams in the conference....and hopefully it'll be yours.

So, what you are saying is that our 3rd line is going to be awesome? I agree.

Sykora-Koivu-Havlat
Burns-Zidlicky

But then we have too many passers on the 2nd...

Brunette-Sheppard-Nolan
Johnsson-Bouchard??

If one of them has played the point, then I'd rather see..

Bruno-Koivu-Sykora
Burns-Havlat
Havlat can play the point on the PP, it's really not where you want him, though.

Smart move for Minnesota. They could actually be fun for neutrals to watch play this year.

Forwards I would have liked to see with the Coyotes:
Tanguay- Gone... 2.5
Sykora- Taken.. 1.6
Prospal- Missed the boat.. 1.15

For a year where we needed offense, and small payroll and a push for the playoffs we end up with Taylor Pyatt, while there we so many one year steals via UFA this summer. Vernon Fiddler will probably get more goals that Pyatt this year. I just don't know who/where to direst my frustrations towards.

Koivu. He's an outstanding player but his points don't match a 1st line center.

this argument is kind of weak considering there were only 20 or so centers above him in points last year representing less than 20 teams...

so technically he certainly sits around the league average for 1st line centers pointwise

I would expect his production to increase given a new system and better linemates

I guess we disagree with what a 1st line center is.

Koivu was a PPG center until his injury last year. It took him about 8 games to get going again afterword. Once he did, he was back to PPG pace. It's worthy to note that his PPG pace in the first half of the season was with linemates no better than Andrew Brunette.

He's a 1st-line center.

Good for Sykora. He quietly scored 25 goals last season, but still had a down year. Hopefully Minnesota can resurrect his career.

When has Mikko Koivu ever put up a PPG season?

Reading comprehension? Koivu was ppg for a majority of last year while playing with a washed up brunette and not much else. He did everything that you can ask a first line center to do and he did it well. For the few games that gaborik was back for, koivu and gabby looked dominant. Koivu is most definitely a first line center in this league.

Maybe you should re-read the two posts yourself. I asked a simple question: "When has Koivu ever put up a PPG season?"

2005-2006: GP 64 - G 6 - A 15 - P 21
2006-2007: GP 82 - G 20 - A 34 - P 54
2007-2008: GP 57 - G 11 - A 31 - P 42

40 points in 60 games is not PPG, and that was his best season (excluding last season)

Ugh what part of a ppg player for most of last season are you missing? At no point did anyone say he was a ppg in any other context than last year where he was on ppg pace for most of the year. Troll better next time.

He's done. He's a sniper who couldn't even get it done with Malkin last season. Not to mention he's a floater who can hardly skate anymore. I expect him to get waived by 1/4 the season.
