he tried to plug the biggest piece of his offense into mish-mash of talent, hoping it would magically work. perhaps "all his eggs in one basket" isn't the right phrase.

And to think that, just a few days ago, we were all pretty much in agreement that big trades don't happen any more, and that not much activity was expected. Mr. Sexton. I believe it's your turn?

Big trades don't happen during the season, but this isn't during the season. This is the deadline. It's a little bit different from the usual, as there is a trade freeze from Feb. 12-28, then three days later on March 3 is the trade deadline. So technically, right now is only a couple weeks before the trade deadline. You see deals coming a week or two before the deadline sometimes. Idk who thought there wouldn't be much activity, I haven't seen that said.

I doubt we'll acquire anyone significant though. It's a seller's market this year as right now there are really only 4 sellers and it's liekly to be that way until the deadline. There simply aren't enough players of significance to go around for everybody. It will be very expensive to acquire one of those guys and I don't see us paying the price most likely. The teams that feel they need one more piece for a deep run in the playoffs, they will be the teams that trade for most of these guys IMO. And some of them already got traded a couple days ago. We can't afford to be damaging the future to maybe make the playoffs.

Make it 3 teams now that have wanted to rid themselves of him. And it could be 4 if he doesn't play well in New York.

Unless you really believe Sexton would be willing to shake up the core of this team, ala trading either Weiss, Horton, Frolik, then I wouldn't expect a "big" trade. I think Sexton has made it clear management believes in our core and that's what we're going to be relying on to move forward with.

I've said it before, however, I would be in favor of a move involving a pick or prospect if it returned a top 6 forward, preferably a young up and coming #2 center (maybe Peter Mueller anyone?), that would take pressure off the Weiss-Horton line. I think that's a move that really could push this team over the 8th place line.

Teams in mix for Kovalchuk include: Boston, New Jersey, Rangers, Philadelphia, Calgary, Chicago and L.A. Some more. Some less. Auction time.

From his twitter account. I'm going to guess Chicago gets him.

Hopefully he goes to the Western Conference.

I'll be surprised if Chicago does, but they do need to shed salary. Will suck for us as Atlanta will likely get some good pieces for him.

Columbus has fired Hitchcock. Figured that would happen, just not so soon.

Depends. If the best part of the deal Atlanta gets is the picks and prospects, they won't really help until a few years from now, and Atlanta will likely be a bottom team in the conference. If they get a deal loaded with good NHLers, then they could actually make out quite well even for this season.

I don't think they'll have much of a choice other than to move NHLers out of Chicago. This is the best way for them to get something for those guys while still making a serious run for the Cup.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize you were talking about Chicago, but more in general. Yeah, I agree.

I think I saw they wanted prospects and a 1st round pick in return.

For Oduya, Bergfors, Pameiri, and a 1st.

No one goes for big names anymore. It's very rare.

I guess they got a good deal from the Devils.

EDIT: Palmeiri isn't involved.

It's Kovalchuk for Oduya, Bergfors, Cormier, 1st

Yeah, surprised Waddell didn't insist on getting someone like Josefson instead of Cormier.

lol. Gotta think we would have received less but it would have really been worth it. Especially now when we want to get Whitney(which will never happen). It just gives you more assets to deal with. A large reserve is always a good thing. Asset management is key when you have a salary cap and we really blew that one.

I'm an idiot. For a rental player, they did ok. Changed my mind. I hang my head in shame. I am stupid. Going to find a corner to cry in now.
