Ok . Not how sure good this is from just listening to the radio but I thought it was a good idea because there's no video. here are some of the things I took note of:
Hedman: led all defensemen with 7:47 played. Him and Foster played point on the first pp unit.
Bochenski: led all forwards with 7: 21 played
Tyrell: After getting praise during the pregame interview with Toc as one of the stand outs in camp, seems to be a little nervous for his first NHL game. Early in the game he iced the puck, and was off-sides on a rush, and has a missed shot on goal. He also didnít play as much as the other forwards.. but itís just speculation of course
Foster: playing a lot of minutes, like Hedman. Seems to be playing well. On the pp had a cannon of a shot, and later on also had a crushing check on someone
Konopka- I think it was foolish of him to get in that fight, especially right after the delayed penalty. Everyone knows he can fight, but he's not going to win a spot for doing it. If I'm Konopka, I want to stay out of the box and play as much as I can on the ice. If he was sticking up for a teammate that would be different, but it seemed to me he was fighting for the sake of fighting.
Smaby- made the pass to spring Bochenski on a breakaway.
Mclean- made the play to clear the zone to get the puck to Fedoruk for the goal. Involved on the 2nd goal too, where he got a piece of the puck before it went in from the Foster shot on the power play. That goal ties the game right before the 2nd intermission and adds a big momentum boost as play ends.
Miller- knocks the puck to center out of the zone on the pk and takes off, and forces Dallas to take a penalty to stop him
Bochenski- makes a nice play from Szczechura to Tyrell for a good scoring chance at point blank. Makes a good play to keep the puck in the offensive zone on the pp that would eventually lead to a Foster/Mclean pp goal.
Niittymaki- played better and didnít let in any goals this period, and made a couple big saves.
Hedman- showing us again that heís got fight in him. Said he was ready to fight for his team during the intermission, if not for Modano holding back Benn and Halpern stepping in to break it up. Played a lot more in the 2nd period playing 8:39 and bringing his total to 16:26.(the next highest was 11:48 by Foster)
Foster- shows off his rocket of a shot from the point again to get the assist on the bolts first pp goal of the night.
Mclean- starts his first shift of the 3rd the period off strong throwing a good check.
Panik- picks up his play in the 3rd.
Janus- starts facing some pressure immediately facing 3 shots in the first minute. Close to having a shut out 3rd, if not for the lone goal late in the period by a spin o rama pass from Richards.
Smaby- makes a hammering hit
Hale- fights with Sutherby, -Mish said he thought Hale won.
Jones- SCORESS for the LEAD!! Get the goal off a rebound from a Halpern shot.
Tyrell- had a shorthanded breakaway.
Hedman- played 25:03 in his first NHL game (not counting OT)
Konopka- (in 3 periods) 8/12 on faceoffs and 3 hits
Janus makes a big save with 2.6 seconds left to bring it to a shootout
Janus-makes an easy save after the first shooter loses control of the puck/makes a save on the 2nd shooter/The 3rd shooter (Richards) scores
Panik- had the goalie beat, but misses the net
Took too many penalties and didnít take advantage of all of our power plays..but not really a problem in a game without a lot of the regular pp guys and plenty of time to work out the kinks.
Felonious Python joked about Brett McLean and Brandon Bochenski in the avatar thread before the game, but I believe they were the best 2 forwards. Hedman and Foster were the best 2 defensemen and both goalies played well.
