3.75 is a hell of a price for what Vermette can bring.

Wow, that's a pretty steep price for Vermette - especially with a contract that long.

I guess they expect big things out of him.

You go Antoine. You'll be missed in Ottawa.

Sucks that he'll be with the Jackets for 5 years since he seemed to love playing against Chicago last year. It'll be interesting if he can continue on the offensive pace he had when he joined them last year because at $3.75 million per he'll have to be producing 50+pts IMO.

You're absolutely right, and I think he can produce at that level on the 2nd line between Umberger and Voracek for Filatov and Voracek

Vermette's role is different on Columbus than it was in Ottawa,he will not be playing on Kelly's wing on the third line in Columbus, he will be playing second line centre..

Two years go he had 26 g and 53 points and has been 4th on the Sens for points the last couple of years despite his linemates and role . Last year was a disaster offensivly for the Sens, even so he was still the top point getter after the big three, both before and after he left the Sens.

He is a responsible Hitchcock type of player, excellent on the PK and on face offs, and I expect he will do very well.

A bit of an overpayment now, but will look much better in a couple of years at most.

ATM sounds a bit too big money for Vermette, but here's hoping he can deliver for the BJ's!

Damn, that won't help the Canucks in regards to Kesler. We were hoping to get him at around 3.25M for the same term. Unfortunately, he can likely command more than Vermette. But with his supposed discount, maybe we can still get the now 4M+ market value down to 3.5M which is still a good price

Scott Howson has sure turned into a pretty good GM. It pains me to think that he was the Oilers assistant GM for all those years. We'd probably be in better shape if he had been running things here the last few years.

It's fair, nothing great at all. HIs play never really impressed me,almost 4 million for a 2nd line player, not bad, also not that great. He was probably asking for 4 million.

Vermette is a very good player and if you look at some other contracts handed out around the league, I'm sure CBJ is very pleased to have a player of his calibre/character for the next 5 years at that price.

That contract's a steal -- for Vermette.

Huge overpayment, IMO. Especially with players with comparable production like Ryan Callahan and Chad LaRose getting recent contracts in the $2 million range. His cap hit is the same as David Krejci's, and the production is nowhere close.

Bolland's deal probably served a framework here, though Bolland is a superior player, IMO.
