Surgery was successful and he should be back in action by the weekend, Wilson says. They're worried about the possibility of infecting the incision area, so he won't be in equipment for 48 hours.

He's fine. The procedure is quite minimal.

I'm curious as to why he had damaged tissue in his heart to start with?

Born with it?
Heart Attack?
Something Else?

Don't be rediculous, he's the most important Player in the Future of the Leafs, with out goaltending your never going far in the Playoffs, what I'm suggesting is that we've had some bad breaks in the Past that seem to Haunt us, Cereda, Berard, to mention two. If this guy can fullfill his potential he will solidify our Future more than any one Else.

I'll accept the lack of input from the clowns who ridiculed me when I started this thread as an apology.

Thanks

Don't mean to interrupt this thread hijacking attempt, but, can anyone tell what was wrong with his heart to begin with that required this kind of attention?

Why was this not caught in Sweden?

They found some irregularity during his hospital visit/tests after the scare from the other day apparently...

I am interested in the type of irregularity they found.

I have heard everything from a blockage to a part of the heart transmitting bad electrical impulses. Perhaps, one leads to the other. It would just be nice to know.

Let's just be thankful the problem was caught, for Jonas's health as well as our teams future.

Not sure if it's possible it could've been another Cherepanov incident. :/

Agreed. And although this will sound massively selfish, I hope he's good to go for Saturday's game

According to a twitter account I was reading, the procedure took 10 minutes and might possibly affect his mobility as an incision was made through his groin to access his heart via an artery.

The guy above received media credentials to attend the camp.

I think Cherepanov's problem could have been prevented, however, the KHL doesnt have the same medical infrastructure and fitness testing as the NHL. Therefore, he was doomed. The Monster will be fine.

Gustavsson is expected back on the ice in 72 hours.

From MapleLeafs.com:

Quote:
It sounds worse than it is, but the Monster is having a minor operation to fix an irregular heartbeat.

Itís called Ablation, and itís a non-invasive surgery in which a catheter is used to remove a non-lethal blockage that is interrupting the heartís normal operation.

Ron Wilson said he had the surgery today and walked in and out of the hospital.

He is expected back on the ice in 72 hours.

If he's played this great up to this point with a heart blockage, imagine how amazing he'll be afterwards!

Seriously though, I really hope he's ok, it sounds minor (unless that's just the media spin). Get well Monster!

Can be a minor blip if the treatment works. Can be major if the treatment doesn't work. Didn't work for me personally and could never play high impact sports ever again.

Hopefully it works out well for him!

It's not a heart blockage. It causes an arrhythmia, sometimes like the one that felled Jiri Fisher and Cherapanov, sometimes nothing more than something that make you feel a little dizzy while exercising.

Yep. No situation is exactly the same. The presentation was similar but when they went in to perform the ablation, it wasn't in a place where they able to do this sort correction, they could've made things worse so they went another direction with me.
From the sound of things, it sounds pretty good for Gustavsson. The Detroit Lions' QB Joey Harrington had this procedure and continued to play in the NFL after it happened. Others have had it and it didn't help and had it end their sports careers.

Ah, I see. Well lets be glad they found it when they did.

Now that I think about it, I get dizzy when I work out, but that's probably because I'm an out of shape piece of ****.

From MapleLeafs.com:

Cardiac Ablation is invasive surgery.
I don't understand the Leafs saying it's not.
