I think pitseleh is pretty interested to see who pitseleh picks too. I'm drunk as a skunk at the moment so I'm going to sleep (pass out) on it and I'll make my pick in the morning. Send me an offer if you're interested in trading up.

I'll be going off for the weekend, so hopefully you guys don't turbodraft into the 15th position.

If you're worried, you're best off sending out a list to some people just to make sure. The pace can pick up pretty quickly.

Haha, drinking and drafting was one of my downfalls in my first MLD. I'm going to try really hard to avoid it for the big show.

Nice Pick, Pitseleh. You got a top 5 player with the 8th pick. I knew I didn't have a chance at him when I saw you in front of me. Too bad you are not a Habophile.

Anyway, The Toros will select C Jean Beliveau

Thanks for announcing our pick, Devil. We tossed a few names around - honestly thought we'd get Bourque - but we realized that with 32 teams, if we didn't get a defenceman now, most of the legit No. 1 defencemen would be gone by the time we selected in the second round.

We got a defenceman who can do it all: log big minutes at five-on-five, play against the opponent's best line, quaterback the power play, anchor our first penalty killing unit. He brings the physical dimension that we covet. He's a great guy and a great leader. He won four Cups. And we've never had him before.

Pappy selecting Beliveau? Is nothing sacred anymore?

Just a reminder to all GMs: If you're not going to be around for an extended period of time, you are expected to PM a list to another GM. With 32 teams, this should not be viewed as an option. This draft usually is at its best when we average at least 12 picks a day. So let's remember to keep this thing moving, because with 32 teams, it's really going to drag if we don't.

At the same time, keep in mind that the definition of a legit #1 defenseman changes along with the number of teams. And 24 more defensemen just became top-6 guys. Just like when the NHL expanded.

I was just in a draft the Leafschat forum with 20 teams, so yeah.. this thing completely changes the entire scope of.. everything. Potvin looks a hell of a lot better now than he did there, because the teams will be more thin in talent. Great pick.

So far it's been the exact same guys who went in the top-11 last time...7 of the 11 being taken in the exact same spot.

We probably wouldn't have picked Potvin at No. 11 if there were 28 teams. But with 32 teams, it changes a lot. If we pass on Potvin to take someone else, we're probably looking at the 20th defenceman on our list for our pick in the second round. So we go with Potvin, get the ace who can truly do it all and play in all situations, and not panic with our second round pick.

Getting the 20th-best defenseman wouldn't be the end of the world. The 20th-best defenseman in a 32-team draft is going to be better than roughly 12 teams' #1 D-man. The 20th-best defenseman in a 28-team draft would only be better than 8.

To that end, I'm really surprised we didn't see a certain other player crack the top eleven; I thought for sure this would be the draft it happened in.

It's not, but I'd rather have my No. 5 than the No. 20. The 20th-best defenceman would be right at the bottom of what I view as the truly legit No. 1 defencemen in the ATD. (Yes, there are 32 No. 1 defencemen, but how many of them bring the traits of what I would want for a No. 1 d-man at this level? Twenty, give or take a defenceman).

And by getting Potvin, it means that we don't have to be in a rush to get a No. 2, whereas if we had waited, and landed the guy who was 18, or 20, or 23 on our list, we might be looking at getting that No. 2 in Round 3.

Damn. Chances are, I'll be in the woods when it'll be time to call my pick. Can somebody take a mini-list right now?
