i was at the game and was unable to hear wood until i was driving home. for the 2 minutes i did hear him, he seemed like he was throwing some random info out there like Vin Scully.

I was at the game tonight. Here's some quick notes. If you have any specific questions I'll let you know what I think but it's late so I'll make this short for now....

-Ryan was all over the ice. It almost seemed like an unfair match up every time he was on the ice -- even with his junior linemates.

-Lupul had some good moments. Looked pretty quick. Absolutely roofed the shot in the shootout.

-Brookbank was awful. He made one of the most boneheaded plays I can ever remember seeing in person.

-Sbisa is so smooth. I don't think he'll have a problem making this team. I would love to see him paired with Nieds.

-Boynton and Eminger weren't anything special.

-Holland is DEFINITELY a project -- and a major one at that.

-Hiller was solid.

-Pielmeier looked fantastic. Very poised and in control. He's got a future in the NHL.

-Nokelainen looked alright.

-Bodie had a great fight.

-Carter didn't impress.

Few thoughts I'd like to add from the game

- Artyukhin is a speed demon as well as a beast...beat out a icing call at one point

- QP was awesome as usual, dropped the gloves against Perrault towards the end of the third but the refs jumped in before anything could happen.

- Great to see Parros at the box office window before the game, he was great about signing my jersey but bad planning on the part of the Ducks staff. We had to go back outside after going in to find out where the players were supposed to be. Why not just put him at the interior window? Ebbett and Festerling were inside the Ponda but you stick the most popular player outside away from fans?

- Lupes had a great breakaway at one point...and shot it high and wide. Where have I seen this before?

Did Sexton look like a player who could get the oppurtunity with the Ducks later this season?

Sexton was impressive last night. I thought that he was by far the best of the "young" players. I am concerned about this size, however. I think that he will start in the AHL, but depending upon how he plays, could be an injury call in this year.

I agree with everything you said except "Pielmeier looked fantastic. Very poised and in control. He's got a future in the NHL".

I thought he looked so-so. On one save he was leaning too far to the right before the shot and ended up way out of position. However, he made the same with his glove. Also, he is way too short. He's listed at 6, but that has to be with skates on.

Neither were impressive. Salcido is great with the puck, but he needs to improve in his own zone. He looks like he's gained some weight though.

Who did Brookbank fight early in the third? NHL.com has the name absent from the boxscore.

Bobby Ryan looked like an All-Star already. Is it me, or was Ryan's skating noticeably faster and smoother than last year? Lupul was meh, but Sbisa looked pretty good. I don't want to pair him with Niedermayer, I want him to learn from Neidermayer. I'd throw him back there with someone a little more physical.

Hiller was great. Giggy better work on his butt muscles, he could be on the bench for 50 games this year...

edit: Artyukin needs to go as Bond villain Jaws to the halloween party this year. He won't even have to dress up. The man is huge.

True story. Hollweg won that one easily.

Forgot about Sexton.

He looked pretty good. I hate to compare him to Ryan Shannon but that's who I think of when I see him out there. He's not as fast as Shannon though.

He showed everything I could've hoped for from a 20 year old goalie. The only puck that got by him was because of a monumental mistake by Brookbank. Overall I would say he has pretty solid positioning and quick reflexes. I don't think he looks too small, maybe a inch smaller than Hiller. I'm not sure where your seats were but I was sitting a couple rows behind him in the 3rd period if that means anything.

I would stick with my prediction that he will be an NHL goalie.

How is he defensively and near the boards?

I didn't notice him too much on defense, which is a good thing I guess. He seemed to do fairly well with getting back to backcheck.

He didn't look completely overmatched along the boards but I guess you have to take that with a grain of salt considering the competition.

Now he's one of my favorites.
I wouldn't say he was really boring, as I've heard worse snooze fests during games. Wood just needs to stop smacking and licking his lips so damn close to the mic. There were also times where he tried to be somewhat funny, but it failed and it created some awkward silences. I would imagine he would improve, but those things seemed be more than a little irksome to me.
