Expectations for AKost: Concerns about his camp

I don't get this guy. He has all the talent in the world but I never get a feeling that he is giving his 110%.

What are your thoughts on his camp so far, his overall attitude, his potential on the Habs roster.

Sorry if this is a redundant topic...

It's training camp and they're playing scrimmages. Do you really expect him to give his all for meaningless games? It's a bit early in the season to complain about his play.

Also, wasn't his line with Gomez and Cammalleri the best one in the scrimmages?

Duos...

A.Kostitsyn-Gomez-Calamary
S.Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Gionta
Moen-Lapierre-Latendresse
Stewart-Metropolit-Laraque
Chipchura-D'Agostini

Let Pacioretty get ice time in the AHL, give last chances to Chipchura-D'Agostini-Sergei

Fill in the blanks (Latendresse, Kostitsyn, Laraque, Moen, D'Agostini, Chipchura, Stewart, Kostitsyn Jr?, Pacioretty?)
It's not Cammelari it's Cammereliri.

Do you have anything of value to add to the thread?

My answer to your first question is yes. The veterans have shown some heart in the inter-squad scrimmages. All the reports so far do not state the same commitment from Kostitsyn.

I don't recall complaining about his game... I am merely stating that I expect him to show some form of fire. Let's not kid ourselves...Kostitsyn still has a lot to prove in the NHL.

Regarding his line, the only players that anyone cares to mention are Gomez and Camalleri. Because they are new? Maybe...but I wonder.

Again, this thread is not meant to bash on Akost at all. I want to discuss what he needs to do....what we are seeing from him in camp...and what our expectations are during the season.

I heard yesterday that Martin took AKos aside during one of the scrimmages to talk to him about his intensity level....

Personally I think he has to become more consistent. We all know he has the talent to become a top flight winger. I just found that last season he would take too many nights off.

I'd also like to see him shoot more. 169 shots is not enough, I'd like to see his total reach up into the 200's.

Yes. The guy was lazy as **** all last year, and he it still the same uninspired player. Not a good sign for people who were hoping for him to turn things around this year.

For at least 2 years we all hoped the Kovalev was taking Andre and Sergei under his wing, Wel it's graduation time. Kovalev is not here and both Andre and Sergei must now create plays and finish plays on their own talent and hockey sense. It's time to develop their own creativity and chemistry with others and start to lead the attack and not just sit back and wait till Kovalev decides what to do. The learning curve is over and it's time to go to work and earn your PAY every DAY.

I saw that in an article too, but don't recall it mentioning that Martin commented in his PC that the convo was about his intensity level, or if was he miced up and the chat was broadcast throughout the arena? If neither of those two things occurred, how the hell would anybody know the details of the conversation? Could've been talking about where to go, when to pass, when to shoot etc...

-Actually the article never mentions intensity, the poster above was either told wrong or made it up.

Veteran have shown heart???..No. They're hard workers, that's not heart.
People seriously need to stop throwing the word heart around.

First off, are you basing yourself off reports??..If so, you shouldn't start a thread on how a player is apparently ''lazy'' when you haven't seen him play.

A.Kost won't show any fire in camp. What about Lappy??..he's been slow too and the list goes on. Maybe he's getting used to his linemates as well and is having a bit more difficulty than the other two. Who cares??..It's training camp and even though he hasn't proven much in NHL, he's without a doubt part of our top6.

I don't think creating a thread about what he needs to do based off the training camp is worthy.

Maybe his intensity level is bad, perhaps he's one of the players aimed by Martin when he said there's a lot of work to be done on the work ethic. But there's no way to know until we actually see him play once the real season start.

You're thread is a couple of weeks too soon.

Some players need a little more time than others to get into their rhythm as well, might just be that.

A.Kost has great talent, he just needs to focus on doing what he does best and bringing it every game.
For that, we'll have to wait until October to see if he brings it.

A Kost is on the right wing....correct?

CammaLarry is left wing I believe, therefore the left-shooting AKost must be right wing on that line. Just thinking out loud here, but can anyone confirm that for me?

I prefer AKost on the right wing, by the way.

Habs Hockey! Can't wait. I'm a 50 year old excited kid right now.

Heart = work ethic = effort = commitment = ardor

So now people can't comment on reports?

I'm not a big Andrei Kostistyn fan but I agree with a lot of the posters here. Let's at least give it a few weeks into the season before we make an assessment. It's not fair to him to talk about lazyness and such for two scrimmages at camp.

Don't know if the OP was really bashing him but yes it would be nice to let them play at least one pre-season game before complaining.

Didn't you know it's one of the favorite past time of Benoitbrunetism adept to bash the Kostitsyn all year long and wanting to trade them away?

We said the same thing last 2 seasons. In 1 it paid after sending him back in the AHL after a few weeks, in the other we kept waiting after a few weeks. You know I don't really care whether it's fair or not, 3.25$ million per year compared to my puny 60k isn't really fair

I'd like 0.1% of that for a week, now that would be fair

No doubt.

But for last year I think the injury (concussion) really slowed him down. He looked to be on a tear before that. He was involved, played physically etc. Hopefully he comes back with that same attitude. It really is a question of attitude in his case because he has more raw talent (or as much) as anyone else on the team.
