Chad Johnson Appreciation

I thought Chad Johnson looked really good. Calm and collected. He's probably already ready to be a backup in the NHL and I can really see him being a starter one day.

It's not that he played well, it's that he made it look easy. He catches the puck with his glove as if a little baby girl threw a beach ball at him.

He still has some stuff to work on(like all young players) but he did play very well. I am sure once Benoit gets his hands on him the Rangers may have somethig on their hands for the future.

this year it's valiquette who has the backup job pretty much guaranteed, but with johnson hopefully playing in hartford, next year could be his chance. he really looked calm and solid out there.

best attribute is being calm. didnt give up more than 2-3 rebounds all game lol. makes a huge glove save and its like...yeah whatever i did that with my eyes closed and gives the puck to the ref.

Wiikman is still there. There will be a pretty tough competition for the starting job in Hartford between Johnson, Zaba and Wiikman.

I think it is possible but it is more likely one will go and be the starter in the ECHL with the Checkers.

Given that all 3 can be quality starters in the AHL, I think a spot will be found for them on another AHL team. No reason to let them waste away in the ECHL.

not really a matter of wasting away. a 3 man rotation won't happen. one has to go down to the ECHL and if one falters they alternate

When I heard Joe/Chico say during the broadcast "if he keeps playing like this the Rangers are going to have to give him a lower number than 96" I really wanted the other to say "like 85?" haha.

In all seriousness I thought he played very well. Looking forward to see what he can do over the course of a year.

I noticed he had a breakout season last year in college. Why did the Penguins trade him? Redundancy?

Johnson has a wicked glove. I was a little freakout that he let in his first shot on goal... But he did good.

His pads are bigger than him.

Pittsburgh signed college free agent goalie Brad Thiessen which made Johnson expendable.

They looked about 1/2 the size of Lundqvist's pads IMO

He seemed to have a tone of poise out there and like someone said each time he made a glove save he was like "sure no big deal" haha. Also, he made that insane save in the shootout with his glove

Sick glove, excellent rebound control.

The kid has potential. If we don't have a spot on the Pack, I'd hope Sather can find someone to lend him to. We've done that favor for others in the past.

I definitely liked Ochocinco in net. Valiquette is gonna be in trouble next season.
