Blue Jackets left winger Jason Chimera was taken off the ice on a stretcher at 6:17 of the second period tonight in St. Paul after being checked hard into the glass by Minnesota center Eric Belanger.
Chimera fell to ice and settled flat on his back, his left hand moving back and forth and, a few moments later, his legs kicking in agony. Teammate Fredrik Modin hovered over him and appeared to be talking to him.
Belanger, who is not regarded as a dirty player, was given a five-minute boarding call and a game misconduct.
Rather than return to the ice immediately to play out the remaining 6:17 of the second, both teams went to the dressing room for a second intermission. They'll play a 26:17 third period.
