Would you guys take back Mats Sundin?

With the signing of Kessel and inquires of who will play with him in addition to mentions of whether or not he will perform without a Marc Savard caliber player to feed him. Would you guys take back Mats Sundin, assuming he would retire with the Leafs?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Matt Stajan will do a fine job of feeding Kessel the puck this year. Kadri will do an excellent job next year. (Finding a big strong Lucic type winger to play with them will be the hard part)

No. Absolutely not.

Not after what he did to slow down this rebuild. Not only did he not waive his no-trade, he didnt waive it claiming he didnt want to be a rental. The next season he signs with vancouver on a pro-rated one year contract to play the rest of the season. That is as close to a rental player as I can think of. Fat chance I would ever enjoy seeing mats on the leafs again.

I'd take him on a one day contract right before he decides to retire.

I want him to retire as Leaf.

you all do realize that this leafs team won't have kessel at full flight till after xmass. They are winning in training camp sp this team has to win now or have a high draft position go to the bruins and no true leaf fan wants this!

sundin would be the 4th best player on this team if he came back

Sundin wasn't a bad passer, but he was no Marc Savard. Bozak and Kadri are both better playmakers. Hell, Allison is a better playmaker.

Maybe at the league Min... we don't have much room after all. But that again would take away from a youngster getting valuable icetime so i think in the grand scheme of things i would have to agree with BB and say thats not the direction we are going in now.

No.

Right now we're in a developing stage. We have a lot of players that need to play and will be improving with time. They will play a big role in any success we have in the near to moderate future.

Sundin won't be playing in a few years. I'd be shocked if he plays more than one more year, in fact. He would be a good leader, but when it boils down to it he's taking a spot away from someone that would otherwise be improving and someone who otherwise would play a role by the time we actually get to be a highly competitive team.

ya i would simply because now that we have no first round pick, and we have kessel, the sole point of this season should be to make the playoffs. Sundin would help us do that. I dont think that should have been the primary goal this year, but now that we dont have picks then do anything aside from trading future to get them there

Grabovski 5-11 179
Bozak 6-1 180
Stajan 6-1 200

Sundin 6-5 231

I'd take him back in a heartbeat. We don't have anyone with his skill set on the team. A big, strong, skilled highly-talented centre who can win battles behind the net. Kessel's a wuss. He needs someone to do the dirty work for him.

(No offense meant to our current crop of centres. They just don't compare in that regard.)

The Sundin era is over. He wasn't classy his last part of his last season here, and then he was a hypocrite in Vancouver the following season.

Don't bring him back, he was the last annoying part of the Muskoka 5.

We don't need him. Enough is enough. He should go back to Sweden.

If he'd drop his salary to 1-2 mil a year then I'd bring him back in a heartbeat. I can think of no better role model for guys like Kadri, Stålberg, Bozak. Or Schenn for that matter, since he's expected to be captain one day. Besides, his last NHL game should be as a Maple Leaf.

But it's not going to happen.

Give him what Fleury gets. And a small bonus if he racks up a point or two. Or half what Vancouver offers him. Not to mention the NYR. Tiny money. This small amount: (.1). low

Mats doesn't even want to play.

He hasn't been skating at all this summer.

I don't believe in this "time to move on" stuff. Sundin was a key part, for the fans and team, for 15 years. He's our leading scorer of all time. The media has blown this way out of proportion. If he can produce, we should be glad to take him back. Burke has no quarrels with him. Even if he produces less than he did before, then he is still a valuable leader and teacher on our team. He shouldn't get as much money as he did before, but we should be welcoming him back. I think it could be a great thing for the team, for the players that played with him before and the young guys who still have a lot to learn. It's not like we have money invested in other veteran presences on forward.

It's sad, that now that we finally have a talented young winger for him......he's..gone.
If he had kept himself in shape, I think this would be a perfect time for a comeback to Toronto. But I don't think he has committed himself to the NHL the necessary amount.
