Jones' Future with the Flyers

So Oct 1st is around the corner. JVR is looking poised to make the team (Maybe not right away).

So what do you guys think the future will hold for Jones?

I hope he gets waived before the season starts, but I think he will play at least 20-40 games before he is some how dealt off this team.

Edit:Misspelled Deadline in poll

Quote:
Although Flyers defenseman Randy Jones was not on Friday’s waiver wire, there remains a strong chance he will be placed on it sometime this weekend, sources continue to say.

He could be sent to waivers Friday night, in which case, his name would not appear until Saturday.

General manager Paul Holmgren played it coy.

“I’m not sure where that’s coming from, to be honest with you,” Holmgren said. “As I said the other day, Randy is a good player. He’s an experienced player and has a good player for us in the past. If he’s healthy, he can be a good player for us again.”

He'll get a new contract, unfortunately. Stevens and Holmgren are hellbent on the idea that he's a good player, and we will likely re-sign him yet again. Nobody but JXC wants him back, but if I were to bet one way or another, I bet he'll be back. I don't want him, but I still think he'll be back.

Yea I know they won't. I was just hoping.

My vote is he plays out almost half the season.

They want to give him a fair chance to see if he can play now that he is relatively healthy.

Maybe up his value before a trade.

Seriously he needs to be gone. He's a turnover machine. I forgot just how badly jones plays. In this preseason i have seen him with his awesome puck movement( losing the puck as he tries to push it around the boards). His positioning is awful, he puck handling has been terrible.

I thought carle was bad last night, but jones took the biscuit.

I was torn between dealt before Oct 1st and halfway through the year.

Personally, I think Jones will be dealt; it's just a matter of making it through camp without any injuries, with one of OKT, Syvret, or Marshall showing that they can play significant minutes if necessary.

He'll be signed on a 4 year 17 million dollar deal in December.

I was thinking about this too.

There can very likely be an injury later on down the road and the flyers may want to hold on to him for defensive depth.

If you can call Jones depth.

Well, he should be replaced next year by one of the young D that just came in this year -- nothing against Syvret (who I hope either makes this team by some miracle, or they send somewhere that needs a D).

I want him gone but he'll be here forever. We would never be able to trade him because he makes way too much for someone who sucks.

For some reason Holmgren thinks he's a good player.

Some of you guys are being melodramatic. I doubt he'll be here forever. I think he'll play out his contract and then they'll either resign him at the league minimum or just let him walk.

I still think he plays out his contract, someone will throw him 850k to play on their AHL club next summer. Think some of you ar exaggerating Homer/Stevens love for him. Homer extended his contract at a time when he was wondering how he was going to find 6 players to fill out his blueline and Jones at least physically had the potential, just never got the mental side together. We'll be in a much better situation a year from now with hopefully 2-4 guys legitimately fighting for that spot.

I still think it's Carle who goes on or before the deadline.

Jones would be easier to move because his contract is up.

But he has no worth to anyone. No ones picking up that contract without us either taking their garbage for ours or us throwing in draft picks we don't have. At least Carle will have the chance to redeem himself paired with Pronger, someone may feel he'll help at the deadline. I have no such fantasies about other teams thoughts on Jones.

Looking at the preseason so far - it looks like he's poised to be worse than ever. Just get him the **** out of here.

He will play out his contract.... I don't see this organization resigning him. I don't know why everyone is so convinced that there is some conspiracy and Stevens and Holmgren are in love with him and are going to keep him just to piss us off or something. I haven't even heard Stevens say anything about the guy since he came back from his injury.

I really think Carle is the one we should be worried about here... he is just as bad as Jones IMO. And his contract is way more pricey and longer than Jones'. And the scary part is that Stevens actually does think he is a good player.

Personally, I want him gone. Before pre-season I was willing to keep him on the team as a solid #5 guy, but from what I've heard, he's been atrocious.

Unless another option becomes available (Bertuzzi, Skyora, Prospal gone alreay; maybe Afinegenov?) he will stay with the team.

Just for the fun of it:

9/28/09

" Randy Jones Signs 12 Year Extension Deal Worth 42 Million"

"We have been extremely pleased with Jones' progress over the pre-season and believe he will be a valued part of our defense for the next decade. For the last few years Jones has been invaluable to us, both in his leadership and play on the ice."

-Paul Holmgren

"Go Pens Go"
