Burrows/Kesler

With no Sundin and no Demitra for a while Kesler is without his linemates from last season. Should the Canucks revert to having a Burrows/Kesler line or should they keep Burrows with the Sedins and try to find a good match of linemates for Kesler?

I thought Kesler carried the Sundin/Demitra line but without similar skilled players for Kesler to play with, I'm not sure if he would be as effective as he was last season.

I'd like to see

Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson
Burrows - Kesler - Shirokov

Sedin Sedin Burrows - Great success last year
Shirokov Kelser Samuelsson - Big question mark

Sedin Sedin Samuelsson/Shirokov - Sedins will have success
Burrows Kesler Samuelsson/Shirokov - Much more comfortable with

I am much more comfortable with Kesler and Burrows playing with eacthother than split.

I'd like to see the opposite:

D.Sedin-H.Sedin-Shirokov
Burrows Kesler-Samuelsson (will get 2nd line minutes but IMO that is a 3rd line in terms of scoring)

In the last few years everyone has talked about the Sedins needing a gritty linemate to make their line successful. While that is true, I'd really like to see what the Sedins can do with a skilled linemate for once. For God's sakes let's give the Canucks' two leading scorers the past three seasons someone that can play up to their level of skill. Shirokov possesses that element of grit but also has skill, which is why I think that line owned the Sharks the other night. If they continute to gel and Shirokov proves he's a legitimate top 6 NHL player, we finally have a real skilled 1st line for once.

more likely:

Sedin - Sedin - Shirokov/Samuelsson
Raymond - Kesler - Bernier

I see Burrows - Wellwood - Samuelsson/Hansen, so that Burrows brings his tenacity to a line with Wellwood.

I've been an advocate of a Kesler and Burrows reunion for a while now. Both of them are strong two way forwards who really push each other to be better.

I think a line with Kesler and Burrows could work out to be one of the better checking lines in the NHL.

But the question is, who plays alongside Burrows and Kesler on this top 6, checking line? I dont think Hansen is there, and putting Bernier on that line would literally be putting all our physical players in one basket(in so far as physical guys that play minutes).

Demitra, when and if healthy I guess wouldn't be bad on that line. Burrows and Kesler provide enough size and overall dirtyness to make up for Demitra. Preferably I'd like Demitra traded, but I don't know what Gillis plans are, which is exciting.

Sedin Sedin Samuelsson
Burrows Kesler Demitra

Without Demitra, I really like either Raymond or perhaps after a couple weeks seasoning in Manitoba, SS.

This all hinges on if the Sedins and Samuelsson can build and retain chemistry playing against NHL competition game in game out. I have a feeling Burrows will get his fair shakes with the Sedins.

You know AV, he likes to keep it fluid.

I dont think AV breaks up the Raymond-Wellwood-Bernier line

Yup, Scatchard would make a sick 4th line center 13th forward.

Injured.

Burrows Kesler Samuellsson = one hell of a checking line with scoring.

Call me a pessimist, but IMO, any line with Kesler and Samuelsson as a pair will NOT be producing solid secondary scoring, IMO.

I would go with Burrows - Hodgson - Kesler.... Personally I want to see what Hodgson could if he had the other two doing all the hard work for him so that he could concentrate on offensive positioning and such..

So you are saying the "2a" line features 2 guys who have never scored 20 goals and one guy who hasn't dont it in a couple seasons over 2 guys who have scored 20 goals recently?

I'm going to go out their and say a line that features Kesler and Burrows would probably receive the second most ice time out of the forward group. I'd even say close to the Sedins if in certain games.

I wonder if AV/Gillis would be willing to put Samuelsson on the fourth line and if Samuelsson would be okay with that.

Sedin - Sedin - Shirokov
Burrows - Kesler - Raymond
Wellwood - Hodgson - Bernier
Hordichuk - Johnson - Samuelsson

Sedin Sedin Shirokov/ Burrows
Bernier Kesler Samuelsson
Raymond Wellwood Burrows/Shirokov
Hansen Johnson Rypein

I think Bernier may be ready to take on a bigger role with this team.

Agree with this lineup, although I wouldn't mind if Wellwood centered the 2nd line instead of Hodgson. It's not that I don't want Hodgson on the team this year because I do very much. I just wouldn't want to break up the Raymond-Wellwood-Bernier line because they've continued their success from the playoffs to this preseason.

If you like you can switch the A and B. It doesn't really matter, what i was trying to show was that they are even lines and Kesler and Burrows will probably end up with the most icetime.

If I were running things, I would go with this setup for opening night:

Sedin Sedin Shirokov
Burrows Kesler Samuellsson
Raymond Wellwood Bernier
Hansen Johnson Hodgson
