According to the Dispatch, I have the most common birthday in Ohio. I turn 22 today. Which means Commie gets a goal if he's in.

Play all 60. Just win, baby. Even if it's pre-season.

Happy Birthday!!! All I want for your bday is a win AND no injuries!

That'd be awesome if Commie got a goal!

If we get another stretcher tonight, I'm with you.
One is unfortunate. Two is a freakish coincidence. Three is a curse.

and injury crap continues...

Quote:
-- Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock said defenseman Fedor Tyutin and forward R.J. Umberger, both scheduled to play tonight, will sit out the game with hip flexors. Both men skated this morning and Hitchcock said each could play, but the coach doesn't want to push it.

-- Kristian Huselius had his nose bloodied this morning after catching a stick from Tyutin. The winger was waiting to see if the nose was broken. He is expected to play tonight.

Sore hip flexors and sore groins are commonplace this time of year. Especially after having a day off. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill and why you would bring Williams into the picture is really grasping. We already have a glut of wingers...

Because injuries happen even more in the regular season. Williams would be depth. And if we're dealing with hip flexors and the likes after 3 games of preseason, theres not a whole lot of time here on out for healing. Modin wont be 100% for the rest of the year, and depending on how bad of a concussion Chimera received, who knows how long that could be. So now our "glut" of wingers is a bunch of kids that average about 20 years old to take on the NHL.

I believe reports indicate J Williams is suffering from a groin injury also.....(noted in Kukla's Korner this noon)

Damn things are contagious. Hopefully whatever he caught from his time with the Jackets he spreads to the Wings...

So... we had an excess of depth, and it's been temporarily dismantled thanks to untimely and injuries, and you're annoyed because there wasn't even MORE depth consisting of a player you liked who is himself presently injured?

I sense an unfounded agenda.

Reports indicate Zetterburg, Cleary and Bertuzzi are having minor problems with their groins too.

Yes, because we knew these injuries were going to happen. Untimely injuries are not some new thing that happens in the NHL, its one of the very few guarantee's in the NHL. Its not so much of a like for the specific player, but for an NHL type player in general. What I liked about Williams was he was a proven commodity for a very very fair price. And I did not know he was injured (which is poetic for how my day has gone thus far)

I'm with you. They aren't entertaining anyways. I'm sure they are of some use in evaluating those players on the bubble, but the injury risk is far too great. These last 2-3 seasons have been brutal for us in preseason.

We knew those specific ones would happen? Geez, then we ought not to have played those guys in their Fated Games. I hope nobody's Fated for tonight that we forgot to pull out of the lineup...

A few last points and then I'm going to try to stop because we're probably veering into thread hijack territory:
1) Figuring something as probable is nowhere near the same as claiming "we knew it was going to happen."
2) We can't make contracts Magically Go Away, so it's still smarter management to stick with the contracts you still have rather than try to create even more of a depth headache.
3) It is a testament to the depth we have that we still have an NHL-capable forwards lineup - with backup players included - even with this "one free stretcher per night" mishegaas.

Are we good now?
