Synopsis from ign.com
Quote:
"Film's synopsis: In Fury, it is April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
This movie is a historical achievement as well! It will be the first movie to feature a real Tiger Tank from WW2.
from manlymovie.net
Quote:
"Anytime a Tiger tank has appeared in a movie in the past, be it in Kelly's Heroes, Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers, it has always been a replica. Usually a mocked-up T-34. This is because there are only seven surviving Tigers and only one of those is operational"
Here is the first footage of the movie from E3 2015. It is a behind the scenes.

The film will release November 14, 2014

Looks like a Brad Pitt we've never seen before. Great young cast too!

Sherlock did you change your avatar because of this movie or have you always had Sutherland?

I always had sutherland.
Kelly's Heores was my first ww2 movie when I was young. My dad showed it to me and oddball is one of my favorite movie icons besides Sherlock Holmes and James Bond.

The plot makes no sense historically.

I'm treating it in a sort of "Inglorious Basterds" way where I'm only expecting a good time at the movies, not a lesson in history.

Shermans weren't quite deathtraps but they did rely on numbers to make up for some shortcomings. Hard to imagine the movie not having a ton of plot armor for the stars. Kind of grimacing at the Fury vs Tiger moment but I guess it was cut quick enough that we don't know what happens.

Due to the slope of the armour a Sherman is only about 8-10mm less effective then a tiger. Also looks like the tiger hit it at an angle and the extra armour around the radio operator. It is an Easy8 Sherman with a 76MM which it a great tank and could take a tiger.

Armor is relative to the guns you are facing, and the Tiger's gun would destroy the Sherman all the way out to 2,000 meters. Even when using perfect angling and deflection, the 88m L56 would still just blast through the Sherman. At 2k, the AP ammo from the L56 had 110mm of penetration. At 100m, even the regular ammo could penetrate nearly double the amount of hull armor the Sherman had in the front. Wasn't even a contest if it was a side shot.

The E8 was a good tank but it could not "take" a tiger anymore than other tanks that managed to somehow miraculously get within spitting distance could.

I don't expect much historical accuracy, but it would be nice.

Purple heart boxes? Yeah they weren't deathtraps but they were vastly inferior. The tank isn't the issue the time frame is. It's like making a movie about Nimitz and how he was out manned by Japanese aircraft carriers in 1945.

I like how LeBouf is listed second among actors--likely a SAG requirement--yet hardly appears in the trailer. Columbia must understand that people don't like him anymore and may get turned off from the film if they realize that he's in it and has a major role.

I also wonder if the name of this movie will cause any change in the name of Mad Max: Fury Road, which is scheduled for next year.

This crossed my mind, too, but it's really rather standard as movies go. Most action stars are older than their characters realistically would be. John Wayne was about Pitt's age when he starred in The Longest Day. Heck, it's not just Pitt, as probably every one of this tank squad, save for the baby-faced kid, is at least 5 years older than a tank squaddie likely was in WWII.

Simpsons made a great joke how everybodies hair is always perfectly combed in these war movies. I always think about it when I see these trailers or press releases.

I understand having late 20's 30 year olds in these roles for acting experience/draw power but 50? Its a bit much, maybe he wears a lot of makeup to look younger
