Would you want Briere

I saw someone propose a trade on here which was
TO PHILLY: STAJAN, TLUSTY, FINGER

TO TORONTO: DANIEL BRIERE

He is a good player but comes with a hefty contract, him centering a line with Kessel could be deadly... Would you do it?

I wouldn't do it.

That is simply due to the contract, which makes it an easy decision for me. If renegotiation was a possibility, I'd consider it though.

finger is making 3.5, stajan 1.7, tlusty 800,00, add those numbers up and they equal 6 million. Briere's contract is 6.5....

Not at all.

Even if the numbers are close with the trade, I'd still take those three over the one. I don't think Briere is the answer.

Is briere's hit 6.5 for the next 5 years?

I guess he's a PPG player, but I think we could do better with our money

How often do those come around? The closet we have a possibility of getting would be Marleau but I dont know how easy that would be...

I am not interested in Briere, he just doesn't do it for me, and wouldnt be a good fit with that contract, we sort of need to watch our cap situation.

To be honest, when it's time for the Leafs to really compete for the Stanley Cup, I see us signing our first line center via UFA... Not trading for him.

Or we could be extremely fortunate and have one of the current youngsters just explode and become a star.

I have no interest in Briere, there are plenty of better options out there, why get the one who trips whenever a player is anywhere near him?

Hell no, Just stand pat and hope Ilya Kovalchuk becomes a UFA next year and we offer him the world, then hope one of the young guys can step up. I really thing Bozak is going to impress a lot of people this year not quite 1st line player this year but for sure could be in the next year or two IMO. The guy is a fantastic hockey player who was in high demand for a reason

I'm a big Danny Briere fan. Always been. That said his contract term is too long and you have to think that not only his talent, but his strength will fade quickly than later.

Danny Briere in my oppinion would be a perfect fit in Toronto right now he is money in the playoffs as well and has 4 or 5 real good years left. His price tag is high but he is worth the money in my oppinion. I think he would have real good chemistry with Kessel. Then you put a power forward winger on that line and you have a pretty good 1st line. Kadri and Bozak are likely the future but having a a guy like Briere to ease them in and take the pressure away would be nice. I don't know how I feel about throwing Kadri in the fire next year as our 1st line center he has the skill but looks like he needs to bulk up some more.

Stajan or Grabovsky would have to go if we got Briere and we would probably have to give up some one like Tlusty.

Or maybe some thing bigger like Kaberle and Stajan for Briere and some thing else.

For me Philly would have to do 2 things for me to take Briere

1. give us there 1st in 2010(which they don't have)

2. Take Finger back in the deal

6.5 for 5 more years is enough to choke a horse and would rather direct that money to else where(Kovalchuk if avaiable)

Imo Kadri is our future #1 centre. He already shows signs that he could be a ppg player in the future.

Briere would be too expensive and I really don't think it is necessary for him to be on this team. Kadri will be this teams first line centre in a year. No point in trading away players for a guy that is going to become obsolete in a year.

Waiting for UFA's like Kovalchuk are a waste of time. Just like we were waiting for Nash. No one knows to the last minute who will be a UFA. Players like Kovalchuk at his age never make it to UFA. Briere at 6.5 million isn't far off what he is worth and he is in his prime and will still be a good player at the end of his contract.

I also think you under estimate the value of Briere just look what Montreal paid for Gomez. I think Stajan and Tlusty would be a good start to the deal. The Flyers get a cheap good 3rd line center and a young good prospect to replace Lupal.

thats why i said "if avaiable"

Montreal pushed the panic button on Gomez anyhow they lost out on Vinny and he was there conselation prize
