Hopefully Werek turns into a good 2 way player and Morin can't transition to the NHL.
Do you really want Morin to fail just so our pick is justified?

To be fully honest, I want every prospect that isn't a Rangers prospect to fail as long as it ends up helping us in some way.

You want Morin to score the game winning goal in the Cup against us just so it looks nice that he succeeded?

Wisconson-Colorado College are playing on Friday and Saturday. Which one are you hoping to attend?

Wisconsin wants to start a big 10 hockey conference

The Badgers would like to start a Big Ten Hockey Conference along with Minnesota and Central Collegiate Hockey Association schools Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. There would have to be at least one other addition to make it a six-team league, the minimum for an NCAA tournament bid.

No CCHA and WCHA.

In the spotlight: Sophomore center Derek Stepan was a quick study as a rookie. He moved from wing to pivot in short order, then became a fixture on special teams. He's the top returning scorer for UW based in part on a furious closing stretch last season (6-14-20 over his last 20 games).

No, of course not. But I also don't wish for a players' career/dream to be ruined just because we didn't draft him. I am a fan of good hockey, not just Rangers hockey.

Morin was picked before the Rangers pick anyways.

Most likely Friday, as things will be complicated here Saturday with a big football game and parents weekend.

Given that Morin and Werek were taken two picks apart, I wonder which one Gordie Clark would've taken if they were both available to the Rangers...?

I have to admit, based on my limited (and obviously amateur) knowledge of the draft class, I was really hoping that we would get Kreider and Morin. But I didn't know much about Werek and after we drafted him the best player on a bad team, being coached by Doug Gilmor, story was really compelling. And I've liked the clips I've seen of him - as someone else mentioned after he was drafted, he reminds me of Adam Graves on limited viewing.

I think both are going to be solid players. Stats right now:

Morin: 9GP 9-4-13
Werek: 9GP 7-4-11

Not too shabby for either.

I made the Graves comparison after he was drafted. From what I've read and seen, right now Werek plays the same game and has a very similar skill set as Graves did/had in the O, who knows what that translates to in the future? I am real high on this kid, he does what it takes to win and you have got to love that Gilmour is his coach. Gravey blew up for nearly 100pts as an 18yo after his draft year, not saying Werek will do that but so far he's been good.

Kenny Ryan, the guy that kept getting confused for Chris Kreider, has left BC to go play in the CHL. Hopefully that will stop all the confusion in the box scores. Also:

Oddly enough, the article about Ryan leaving says that he had no points in two games played, and one of the box scores from that first game where people originally said Kreider had an assist (and nyrfan says he didn't) now has Kreider instead of Ryan listed as the second assist on the first BC goal

It's a mystery!

With Ryan, I think there really has to be more to it than "lack of icetime" as he was quoted - he played almost exclusively as a top-6 forward the first 2 games. It feels like there may have been some academic motivations, though that is just speculation at this point.

His departure is bad for BC (though they will survive - looks like Pat Mullane, one of my under the radar favorites, will get to wear pads instead of a suit) but great for Kreider. With Ryan out of the picture Kreider's path to top-6 minutes is made that much easier.

EDIT: And yes, reading boxscores will also be much easier.

Why was Ryan getting top six minutes over Kreider anyway. He was a freshman, so was Kreider, and Kreider was a first round pick. Not saying high picks should automatically get better spots, but generally they're high picks because they're better

I agree, but who knows. Might have been an issue of York trying to spread size through his lineup. Either way, Kreider should only benefit from this as it's not like the team is going to take a major hit from the loss of Ryan.

Was Ryan the guy who was selected with the pick we traded to Toronto?
