ugh....i listen to your show pretty often...this is going to be a tough one to get through.

"well in all honesty"......."and then on the other hand....."...."mumble mumble nensensical segue...."

great guy, definitely knows his hockey, but he really has a hard time formulating sentences that are easy to follow and understand.

I much prefer him to all the other MSG talking heads (Giannone, Trautwig, even Joe M). I find him refreshingly honest, and he always seems to spot something subtle that I missed in the game. I spent a season or two without TV broadcasts (relying on radio), and he made listening to hockey on the radio bearable, which surprised the hell out of me.

If he can tone down the non-catchphrasey catchphrases ("well in all honesty" etc.), that I can only assume are as a result of TV nerves (as I can never remember him doing it on the radio), I'd like to see him given a chance to be the color guy on the TV broadcast.

i agree that he is an honest guy (in all honesty ) and tells it like it is a lot more than the other guys, but imho Giannone is the best guy the Rangers have because he is both articulate and fair at the same time. While he is a mouthpiece at times, he is much much better than Micheletti or Sam in terms of being fair and balanced.

With all that said Maloneys honesty is completely marred by his inability to get a freaking sentence out that doesnt take the viewer 2-3 seconds to plug into their handy dandy Maloney decoder ring to understand. His sentences are like a maze that you have to meander through for a while before you can understand where the eff they are going. He will start off talking about Gilroys defense, and end up talking about the effects of Viagra, and it will be all in one huge run on sentence with these annoying segues that make my ears bleed.

I'm sorry but I just cringe anytime the guy talks.

To me, Giannone talks like an AP press release. He only states facts, and never says anything that isn't generally blindingly obvious. His questions are all leading pro-MSG fluff ("Did you have an incredibly special/wonderful feeling playing your first game at this incredible arena?") - players only ever answer him with glib one liners. Trautwig is over-his-head whenever the questions turn to hockey, and Joe is usually pretty good but sticks to the MSG/Rangers cheerleading line a bit much for me.

I like Maloney because I usually can't guess what he'll come up with, and he'll point out things I struggle to spot on the broadcast - his presentation absolutely needs some polish, but I'd take a presenter with depth and insight over ones whose main credentials are that they're good public speakers.

sounds like Maloney likes the kids but won't be shocked if they are sent down

the DZ decision will be interesting. Staal was sent down. Sanguinetti has played in the AHL.........we shall see

Maloney feels MDZ can play in the NHL this season but he would feel more comfortable if the Rangers had more depth on defense to take the pressure off of MDZ. He added MDZ is the one guy who has an idea of how to QB the PP.

Not my show, I have nothing to do w/ Blueshirt Banter. The guys that run it are a good bunch of guys and occasionally I'll post something on their site but I'm not affiliated w/ them in any way. I was just spreading the word because they had a decent guest tonight (well at least I thought so until I heard you guys ) and thought some other NYR fans might be interested

Exactly the way I feel. He seems like a really nice guy but when he stands in for Sam Rosen on play-by-play I want to cut my ears off. He has such a monotone voice when doing the game commentary - there has to be another option.

They did an awesome radio show over there at the banter.

If you follow my tweets.. I often play the John Giannone is as useful as a BLANK game. His call of the Anisimov goal last Saturday was god awful.

Always liked the three of them, too. Not too hot on Giannone as a play-by-play guy (his voice wears on me) but he's a good guy.

I'd rather listen to fran dreschner call a game than Giannone. He's awful.

Maloney I actually like. His voice doesn't annoy the heck out of me, and he has a very good idea about what's going on.

Giannone is just terrible at play by play, and I mean terrible. But he seems like a good guy so he's ok in my book

Maloney is extremely knowledgeable about the sport so he is very entertaining to listen to.
