Burish out for 6 months

Just heard on Toronto radio that Burish is out for the season. I was only half listening to the radio and wasn't sure if I heard this right. I did a search and couldn't find any other info. Anyone else know any details?

Edit: Just found this on Hawks page - says 6 months

This might finally gives Skille a shot at staying in CHI for all year...

Great news as far as I'm concerned!

Please...Burish deserves much more appreciation and respect. Probably one of the hardest working guys in the league and plays his role perfectly. Not to mention how much he's overcome just to get to the NHL.

Tough break, Adam.

Burish is out six months. Looks like we'll get to see a good amount of Skille this year.

Well said. How any Hawks fan can disrespect Burish is beyond me. He is not a great skill player - so what! He is a good 4th liner that brings it every shift and IMO will be missed off the ice as much as on the ice.

ABSOLUTLY no disrespect for Burish. Really. I'm just a Skille fan thinking he was unlucky so far in his career... That unfortunate break might give him the reel chance to shine in the Pro. That's it!

Then don't call the fact that he just tore his ACL and will miss nearly the whole season "great news".

True, this gives Skille his shot. I hope he takes advantage.

I am very disappointed to lose Burish for so long. He has great chemistry with Eager and comprised the best 4th line we've had since the early 90s. This really ensures Kopecky a guaranteed spot on the 4th line. Don't forget we also have Fraser, Brouwer, and Eager all signed and they all belong/deserve to be on the 4th line more than Skille.

I am not a Skille fan. I think he is a total bust. His 1.275M ELC will work against him because they can send him up and down to Rockford more easily than the other players I've mentioned.

Losing Burish means this team loses some toughness and a good PKer/ great shot blocker.

Fraser played well last year, but will really have to step it up even more this year.

EDIT: Dowell should also get his shot too. He's got the heart and plays the same style game as Burish but will have to prove his worth. Now's his time.

Dowell

Burish is a freak. He's not someone anyone wants to play against. I love his game and he is your model 4th liner. Damn. But now it is time for Dowell IMO. Dowell aint no AB, but he can be. PLease no to Skille. I see him no more then trade fodder. That is just my opinion, so please dont trash me with 1000 replies on how great he has looked in the preseason.

Why is everyone talking about Jack Skille getting a shot because of this.

Last I looked we already had our 2 wingers for our 4th (Kopecky and Eager) and this really just means either Fraser or Dowell will be our 4th line C.

I am thinking Fraser will get the nod as he brings alot of the same qualities as Burish

-Hardwork
-Shot Blocking
-Grit
-Willing to get slaughtered in a fight to amp up team and crowd
-Occasional offense
-good lockerrom guy

I think Fraser wins the #4 C job over Dowell because of his experience

Lousy luck for Adam. I compare Burish to Dino Ciccarelli; he's a great team mate but you hate playing against him. Better put him on the back burner until next year. ACL 6 months? No way.

I'd love to have Dowell on the fourth line. I just can't see the Hawks letting Skille burn through his ELC entirely in Rockford. The injuries sustained by Hossa and Burish are a blessing in disguise for Skille who had little chance of making a very stacked roster before. This is his last chance to prove he can be at least a capable third liner or be dealt.

I'd like to see them roll the Byfuglien-Madden-Skille line that had some chemistry during the Washington game. If he can't keep up even in a defensive role, then ship him back to Rockford, and it's Dowell time.

Skille's defensive flaws make that line worthless

I wish Burish was more like Dino

Agreed that he does have some defensive ineptitude, mainly his awareness. Why not give him a shot with two strong defensive line mates though? They can teach him, bail him out, and hopefully his skating can save their hides. He's still just a kid. It's not like he will never get better defensively.

I just got reminded by a Pens fan in my Skille trade proposal on trade board that we have Brouwer.

Completely forgot about him (Not hard since he doesn't do much in my opinion)

So really no room for Skille

Brouwer is a good option on the third line until Hossa gets back. You can bet Qunneville and co. would be more willing to give Skille a shot rather than toss Brouwer on there to start the season.

If Q is going with the more traditional checking role for the 3rd line (rather than skill/checking hybrid of last season - Ladd-Bolland-Havlat), then it makes more sense for the 3rd line to be Ladd-Madden-Buff and Skille would have to find ice time on the 4th line. It's true that Skille is not a typical 4th liner, but there are a couple points that should be pointed out. First, there's the Bowman effect where he believes in the philosophy that Detroit uses whereby young up-and-comers start on the 4th line regardless of skill level and earn their promotion to more ice time, and secondly, Skille's best asset (to date) is his speed and IMO would be a good match with Eager on the 4th line. While he may not be a typical 4th line crasher, Skille's and Eager's speed would work very well together.

Awww... I was hoping that injury wouldn't be serious. I'm hoping the estimation of 6 months is realistic but I always thought ACL surgery meant a year. If Burish could come back even just for the playoffs that would be a boost but his grit and energy are going to be missed in the regular season that's for sure . Good luck in recovery Adam!

I disagree. Isn't the whole reason Brouwer saw icetime last season was because Q was a big fan of his?

As a Blues fan, I'll be one to say this sucks.
Whenever Chicago is playing someone other than St. Louis, I LOVE watching him. He's always going and he gives it his all every shift.
He's entertaining to watch. He's not going to give that highlight reel goal, but he works hard and he's a great team guy, it seems.

Sucks for Burish.
Hoping for a quick recovery.

I love Burish, but c'mon... it's not that much of a step down from him to Kopecky, Dowell, or Fraser.

I see Skille making the opening night roster

Versteeg-Toews-Kane
Ladd-Bolland-Sharp
Byfuglien-Madden-Skille
Brouwer-Kopecky-Eager
Fraser

I think we're gonna see a greatly reduced role for Fraser this year, to the point where he'll spend a lot of time in the Rock River Valley

I actually let a four-letter word slip outloud in class when I got the mobile text this morning... totally bummed to see Burish out.
