Looks like I'll be able to actually watch this game tonight, since I'm not reffing anymore. If I can stay awake.

Season ending injuries to Vermette and Michalek tonight. I'm calling it.

Get your ass off of your hands, Maloney!

General Manager Don Maloney said he made the deal for three reasons.

"Devan played very well for us during his time in Arizona, however, this trade accomplishes three things for us. First, we acquired a good asset that we can use in the future. Second, it allows us to take a look at a couple of our younger goaltenders in our system Louis Domingue and Mike Lee to see where they are in their development. And finally, it will put Mike Smith back in our net on a permanent basis to get him back to the level we know he can play at. We believe in Mike."

Edit: now that I re-read it, maybe he means Lee??? HAHA ...

It may not happen on your birthday but it will happen soon. Minny plays Buffalo and then AZ. One or both of those will have Dubs throwing up a goose egg.

Happy birthday.

As bad as smith has been I don't think a rebound is totally impossible, it just may not come this year. As many have said I think he's mentally fragile, and that big contract came with big expectations. When you try to do too much you end up playing poorly, which hurts your confidence and then it snowballs.

Hopefully this off season or maybe over the all star break he can take some time and get back to basics. Like all of burke's goalies he's best when he's playing a simply solid positional game and not trying to do too much, hopefully he can get back to that. It may take a change of scenery though, or he could go full tommy salo and never be the same. Hard to tell with goalies, such headcases.

Problem is, Smith himself believes that his game requires "swagger," not simplicity.

He believes his value is in the flashy first save, which is why he keeps missing those second, third, and fourth saves off the rebound.

So long as he maintains that philosophy, he will be a friendly portal for puck rubber into the net.

That's kind of how he's been playing this year. Not questioning your assessment, but where did you get the swagger thing from? Just observations are there quotes or hints to it?

I don't think just his rebound control is the issue either, his positioning has been off too.

I want Smith to get chased early so we get to see Mike Lee play at the NHL level. That'll be a riot.

He says it in virtually every interview - "I have to get my swagger back," or somesuch.

I hope Smith returns to something of his former self or just get to as good as the goalie we just gave up. However, while the mental can be fixed, and the positioning can be fixed, I am not confident that slow can be fixed and he seems terribly slow.

Not enough has been made of the fact that I tried to take Random Dubnyk Action Shot and captured the INSTANT that Z screened Dubnyk. Puck is visible in the goal. Wasn't this the moment it all went wrong for G'affe The Coyote?

If that's the case, start taking action pictures of Smith, Chipchura, Moss, and Michalek. You are our good luck trade charm.
