Smyth, Moreau, Horcoff, Smith, Brewer and Staios have been invited to play for Canada.
Cross would also be going, if it wasn't for his wonky back.
How MAB & Raffi could get left off of that list, befuddles me. But than I'm easily befuddled by the Status Crow at Hockey Canada (oops - them dang typos again - nevermore, nevermore sayth that black hearted Raven).
...just caught Dave Mitchell's report from the Oilers' wind up at Rexall Place. He said that Markkanen will be playing for Finland, and Ryan Smyth, Eric Brewer, and Shawn Horcoff have agreed to play for Team Canada. The others are still considering playing...
nedved isn't likely to play in the tournament, but there are some suggestions that he may have an offer of $12 million over three years from the Oilers to mull over...
Isnt Nedved stuck playing for Canada?
Has there been a rule change?
I think he can play for the Czechs, since he's from there and that country didn't exist when he made the decision to play for Canada. Now that his country finally exists again, I think he can play for them. I'm pretty sure he did at the last world cup.
Moreau and Smith declined to rest their injuries. (wow, didn't know they were playing injured...what warriors)
Hemsky is also playing for the Czechs.
I actually knew that yesterday and posted it but edited it quickly when I remembered that we were asked to keep it quiet for the time being.
Smith told everybody on camera that he wasn't going either so i'm not sure why it was such a secret. Moreau though said that he hadn't had a chance to tell Team Canada No, so I figured it would be wrong to post that on the internet before he had that chance.
As for Nedved, we were told yesterday that he was eligible but I heard Kevin Karius last night on Global Sports say he wasn't, so now I'm confused. Bill tuele said he was eligible though and also said he wasn't sure why he was eligible to play for the World Team but not the Olympic team.
