Wow, on into the regular season eh? I didn't see it, but that seems a little much based on what I've heard...

Even if he deserves it though, when the hell was the last time someone was suspended for running/roughing a King? East coast bias!

Surprising

Usually you don't see this kind of suspension when the player he supposedly injured came back later in the game.

Yikes, what the hell did O'Donnell do to the guy? This suspension is a bit out of proportion is it not?

I guess the NHL wants more Artukhin-like situations

Odie did NOT deserve this suspension...

I do remember at least 10 match penalties that the Kings were on the receiving end on that the opposing goons went without a suspension...fines...yes...but no suspensions... We virtually knock down a player by sneezing on him and get five games...

I also don't remember the last time an opposing player was EVER suspended for his actions against a King before 1981...

well it looks like the NHL is trying to send a message

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4498201

is 5 games the standard for match penatly's now ???

Lessard to miss three games

TORONTO -- Coyotes forward Francis Lessard was suspended for the first three games of the season on Wednesday for his hit on Anaheim's Ryan Donally over the weekend.

The NHL also suspended Lessard for Phoenix's final two preseason games.

Lessard received a boarding major and a game misconduct for his hit in Friday's game.

The Ducks' Joffrey Lupul scored during the third-period power play following the penalty.

So who pairs with Doughty? Greene or do you break up JJ and Scuderi?

Doughty/Greene
JJ/Scuderi
Drewiske/Harrold

I think Hickey will be up for the first 2 games and may even see action in one of the 2. Does Hickey start the season wearing #4?

I think it will go like this:

Doughty-Drewiske
Johnson-Scuderi
Greene-Hickey/Martinez (stop counting him out, he's playing great hockey)

By the same token, you can't really count out Campbell either.

Except for the part where I haven't seen him play any good hockey.

Actually I've only seen him in camp and the rookie game. Haven't seen either of the games he played in preseason.

Let's not forget Piskula as well, who if they are happy with Doughty-Stoll and Williams-Johnson on the PP, may get the initial call.

Agreed.

What OD did will help build comradery amongst the team, while simaltaneously giving one of our young players some much needed NHL experience. Win-win.

One question: Would Malkin have gotten the 5 game suspension if he did exactly what O'Donnell did?
