Am I crazy or does that non-makeup picture not look any worse than the makeup picture whatsoever?
Also, not to crash the party, but while the show's crazy consistent and always solid entertainment, I wish it would go off the rails sometimes. It feels like it's getting too safe and repetitive for me or something.

I agree that this is a quality show, and I understand why it's so popular, but I don't think it's very funny compared to shows like Arrested Development, The Office, New Girl and Portlandia. I find the acting to be pretty terrible and the jokes very predictable and sometimes, dare I say, hacky. Phil Dunphy is funny, but as a whole, I am surprised so many people think it's a funny show. Just had to get that off my chest.
I'd agree that it's not an all-time great comedy, though. The jokes don't really push boundaries; they're more fairly tame, and predictable. There isn't the subtle background humour that you'd find in a great comedy like AD; I can't rewatch Modern Family and discover new jokes that I had missed because they were nuanced, or jokes that only became obvious if you had once you'd seen later episodes that played off them.

That scene was for sure one of the best lately. The show has gotten a bit repetitive in terms of how each episode goes and become overrated but I have to applaud them for that because usually I chuckle at the jokes and it doesn't have that big laugh.
The Wednesday comedies (Suburgatory, The Middle, Modern Family) are all fairly consistent and a bonus for not being that smutty.
I liked this one a lot but mainly because of the Rob Riggle and Ders guest appearances. If they would have cast someone different for those two roles, it would have been one of the worst ones this season.
