Anyone that thinks killing 9 penalties and 3 2 man advantages didn't have an effect on this game is being ridiculous. Killing that many penalties has players getting cold on the bench, you lose flow. It has an effect.

The reffing was brutal but that is the way it is.

Negatives

Horcoff was simply awful on pretty well every aspect tonight. Hemsky was invisible again.
Faceoffs again a concern.
One on one battles a concern.
Khabibulin not sharp 2 weak goals.
overpassing and a lot of hesitation.
Passes not crisp.

Positives.

PK 8 for 9. Calgary didn't even have a lot of good chances.
Jacques (though there is no way he should be on the first line)
Penner well deserved 2nd star.
Deslauriers played well in relief, yes he mishandled the puck once but otherwise a solid effort.
Comrie and O'Sullivan again had some chances, I liked the short look with Cogs on that line.

Well, in that time we have seen a new GM and new coaches. Also half of our team is immovable so I'm guessing you might be a little disappointed next summer.

I thought this was a good game for evaluating. There were many factors to this game. They were short handed at least 9 times and what.. at least two 5 on 3's against. The PK looked sharp. The PP only seen the light three times and looked rusty.

Penner was by far the best player out there followed by JFJ then Brule and Comrie.

I liked Brule's game tonight, he had tons of hustle and energy.

Horcoff looked ugly as all hell. Coughed the puck-up too often, along with having many of his passes intercepted. He was also very weak on the puck, the play ended with him on too many occasions.

Worst player was Horcoff followed by Struds.

Hemsky didnt play bad, he just didnt play good.. basically a no show.

This is obviously a PS game along with new coaching staff so it will be expected for the first few games to look raw. The players need a few good games to get use to the new system. They have been stuck with the same system for 9 years and will take a few games for quinn to break their habits.

You could almost see the relief on the faces of Comrie and O'Sullivan when Quinn finally sent Cogliano out there with them instead of Hands of Stone.
+1

Stone and Brennan will be cut. When you get benched, you aren't making the team. Jacques and Brule made the team tonight. Brule was pretty good on the PK, and was 58% on the dot. Cogliano was also very good, and his addition to the O'Sullivan - Comrie line made an instantaneous difference after Stone was benched.

The only two lines that were any good tonight were the Brule line and the Comrie line. Cogliano had a good shift at the end, and Jacques was a beast.

The rest of the forwards were garbage - most notably Horcoff.

Strudweak can fight. I grant him that and that alone. He's actually a piss poor player.

That said...the key pieces on the D end of things need to get cracking. They were collective krap tonight!

Penalties are very often predicated on which club is forcing the play.

We we're initiating very few promising rushes tonight.

We can't handle the puck or make a pass on our own ice and this is a lot of what you get.

When you're turning the puck over and backpedaling most of the night you'll be taking some penalties.

Really? IMO his lack of speed is going to be more obvious as the season starts up. Nice to see him light it up the preseason though.

I'm waiting for Quinn's comments: "Penner played very well, but the team sucks and I got nothing else to say".

Ah ****! Still fighting for the 8th spot. Trade Hemsky, now.

Seriously, this team needs more defensive forwards. I love the offense we generate, but worry the goals we'll let in. Pk still needs help too.

Strudwick....yeesh.
JFJ....needs more of him, love the mashing.
Hemsky.....needs to wake the **** up.
Penner..... beastly year coming up.

We have lots to improve on, but there is a lot of space to improve. Baby steps people, baby steps. Remember, this team had a top-10 pick last year, with the same team, but different coaches. Lets not be delusioned into thinking this team will improve overnight. Just now, lets hope Quinney gets this team battling every night, and then go from there.

Thank god I didn't pay for my tickets tomorrow night... if thats the kind of effort I'm gonna see from some of the vets.

I'm off to play some hockey and take out my anger on unwitting forwards
I paid $50 bucks a ticket to see the game tomorrow, they better play with more effort .

I will try to give feedback on the game after I go, hopefully they come through with a win.

Didn't catch it all, but these are the tentative lines and who's playing tomorrow.
If Schremp really gets put on a line with MacIntyre and Reddox I will probably break something. That is ****ing ********. Bull-****ing-****. Give him real linemates or just waive him so he can get some practice in with his new NHL team.

Tencer reporting Khabi wasn't on the bench in the third, and won't make the trip to Winnipeg.

Well, it is going to be very interesting to see the cuts. As much as he would bluster to the contrary Quinn must have many preconceived notions as to who is making the grade. How many and how strong he feels about them will be fun to see.

To be honest, with or without skilled linemates, he's done here would be my guess. So I'm not sure tomorrow would mean anything.
