To be fair to Portzline, he did say after that..."With the glut of forwards they will need to keep their play up"... which seems like a pretty obvious statement though.

Personally I like the idea of those two creating havoc on the fourth line. And I think some people will be surprised that Boll is in the lineup more regularly than they might hope. We'll see though.
Hitch is wrong then.... Dorsett is all we need..the days of the Broad Street bullies and Philly are long gone; we need speed, scoring and offense in this league.

But I will say, with Hitch and his defense we should win the cup with the guys Howson is putting into the roster. Hitch is on the clock imo....

As a huge fan of Shelley, I'll say this...

I agree that Shelley brings more to the fighting game, because he is a heavyweight, is more experienced, and is just a plain better fighter than Boll who is a middleweight. But, being objective to both players skill sets, Boll is a much better skater, and while he doesn't have much offensive ability he has more than Jody ever did and he's younger. So I don't think its fair to Boll to say he brings less overall to the game than Shelley. I'd argue he actually brings more. Boll is also more of a pest and can draw some penalties. Jody is just out there to open up some ice and tangle with other teams HWs.

Some games? Yes. Much rather have the guys with more skill out there more often, though. We need to get as much skill and speed on the ice as possible.

I agree. I loved Jody too. Great guy.

You brought up something I saw last season from Boll and that is smarter play. My thing was "Boll is drawing the penalty rather than being the penalty." Which he did and it pleased me greatly. The first season he spent trying to make a name for himself. Last year he played smarter. He has great honor and isn't afraid to take a punch in the face for his team. That matters to me. Skill is one thing. Heart is another. You can work on your skills but if your heart is cold...I don't want you on my team.

Great game tonight. I'd like to see what the guys who were there said, but sounds like we played well, with strong depth, and Matt Calvert had another good night.

IMO, our 3rd line is now our gritty, energy line, but with skill. Our fourth should be more skill than fight, imo. I am not saying these guys are ready, or will be on the team, just using as an example. I would rather have Calvert or Filatov on the fourth line then Boll. I would rather have Picard or Mayorov on the fourth line than Boll. I respect your opinion. I just think we should construct our team differently. Maybe that isn't the case 10 years ago. But now? YES!

I know I wish I could watch this one. 5 goals scored by our Jackets, 6 fights, and a WIN.

I like a crazy 4th line. I think Picard is a better option than Boll in terms of craziness and offense.

I wouldn't consider a player like Calvert or Mayorov, who could gain from a lot more ice time in a skill role.

Could they? Sure. But at some point they will be 28 and still in the AHL if we think that. We have a lot of skill at the wing positions. We need to get them on the ice. Not play players who don't have skill just because it is the fourth line.

We are doing really well on the powerplay, Mason is playing well lately. This season is really looking good. I know this is just the preseason, but if the latter half is of any indication, we're doing great. Excited to see what happens in the last few games.

After recent games... i feel the lineup should belike this, opening night:

Juice/Brass/Nash
Umberger/Vermette/Voracek
Picard/Pahlsson/Torres
Filatov/Blunden/Dorsett

With Murray and Boll switching in and out for Blunden, Dorsett and maybe Filatov from time to time, like Murray/Pahlsson/Torres or Filatov/Murray

Sorry I'm just getting tired of reading some of the crap you've been posting lately, which is surprising because you usually are insightful. I mean you've been tossing around judgment on players this past week despite the fact you haven't seen them in game action and now you're smarter than a hall-of-fame to be coach. I really hope you're just trying to stir the pot and stir up discussion. Did you change the words on the hitch line generator to discussion board answers to come up with some of this stuff?

Yep, and Pic has earned forth line duty... The real issue is spots in the linup and who is best. Picard better make the 4th line along with Murray and Dorsett or I'll be ticked...
