The Penguins backup situation is shaky at best. No mention?

I think it will be Colorado, Calgary, Philly, Chicago, St. Louis, Florida, New Jersey, Los Angeles or Toronto

I would want the Flyers to take a shot at him. No reason not to.

Other than my opinion that LaBarbera is a great backup (note that I didn't say goaltender), and well, Montoya hasn't exactly set the world on fire at a level below, let alone in the NHL.

I'll second that. Lababera is a great goalie to throw into a game every now and then. He does quite well in that situation actually. Where he fails is when he has to be a number one guy and prepare for each and every game. If all your looking for is a guy who you can look to once every couple of weeks, and say "hey you have a start next tueday", Lolbarbera is your man. Montoya hasn't even proven that he can accomplish that.

I would love to see him in Detroit, but I don't know how much cheaper he'd be than Howard. Not like he can really be much worse than Howard or Cloutier anyway.

I would love to have him be backup instead of Budaj but I doubt the Avs ever waive Budaj after signing him to a one-way deal and we can't carry 3 goalies.

LA should give him a shot, I don't think Bernier or Ersberg are a solid #2 behind Quick just yet, Bernier looking the most promising but I beleive another year before Bernier stays with the club. I think that Quick and Montoya would be a great tandem.

My reply had more to do with Montoya than LaBarbera. LaBarbera may be a fantastic back-up. I don't know. The thing is, though, that nobody knows what kind of goaltender Montoya is yet. He closed out last season looking fantastic. He was better than LaBarbera in training camp. So who knows? Nobody.

St. Louis has no room for him so no.

At this poin there's a lot more pointing towards Ersberg being a solid #2 goaltender than Montoya.

I wouldn't mind it if Buffalo takes a shot at him. Lalime had offseason surgery so I'm not quite sure if he's 100% yet and it'd be nice to have someone in Portland with a little more experience than just Enroth. Lalime has the backup position locked up regardless but in case he's not 100% or Miller goes down again Montoya wouldn't be a bad third option.

Ersberg already is a better #2 than Montoya.

How about the Devils. He'd be able to back up Marty for a couple of years, learn from the best then take over. He'd be solid for NJ to give Marty some nights off.

They have Danis. And I would say he is clearly better.

More to the point between Anderson and Budaj there isn't room. The AHL is irrelevant for reasons you mention but we have Cann and Weiman once he's sent down (presuming not claimed) anyway. While I would prefer to give Montoya a shot especially at the cost of Budaj, it's not realistic; I just can't see us carrying three goaltenders.

yup because in Montoya's 5 games in the nhl he was so much better than Ersberg in his 42. If we are going to put an unproven goalie into the #2 slot that goalie is going to be Bernier.

As a Coyote fan this is precisely why I think he'll clear waivers unclaimed. Montoya has been fairly unremarkable at the AHL level and up until the 5 game stint at the end of the season at the NHL level he was quickly becoming a forgotten prospect within the Phoenix system. He's had a good but again unspectacular training camp. I think it's asking a lot for a GM of a team to pick up another contract based upon 5 good games last year.

Montoya seems to fallen off as of late (when you see what hes done last year http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=70291 )...
he should honestly try re-focusing on his game.

As for the Isles, i think we have enough goalies as is...so we'd pass
