So the key for Hornqvist to improve his shooting percentage, is to pass more...

Legwand is 6-1 in the dot so far.

Overall a good second period. The top line started generating a lot of good offensive chances. Hörnqvist is really making his case for that open third line wing slot in Ward's stead.

Tootoo needs to be benched for that stupid high-sticking penalty.

Has Rinne had a weak preseason or is it just a case of the numbers not telling the whole story? Any reason to be worried?

Erat zero shots, Leggy one shot... Santo at least had two shots.

Everyone on the line, minus two.

That's not going to get it done.

1st goal against - multiple failed clears lead to a bounce off Weber's foot straight to Jokinen, Rinne makes the first save, Jussi buries the rebound...

2nd goal against - multiple failed clearing attempts keep play alive, point shot deflected straight down by Whitney cruising through the slot, bounces off ice over Rinne. No chance for Pekka...

3rd goal against - starts with the lack of a forecheck on the PK as Tootoo and O'Reilly both swing early and get caught standing still through the neutral zone allowing Staal to barrel through center ice and unleash a wrister high over the net, but the rebound comes straight back over the net and Staal smacks it out of mid-air before Peks can grab it. Pekka looked like he thought he had the puck long after the goal was scored. Honestly think he is having trouble feeling the puck hit him with his new gear...

4th goal against - Tootoo comes out of the box at the end of his penalty, but again we cannot clear the puck out of the DZ. Multiple failed clears allows Walker to step into one from the top of the faceoff circle precisely at the time Erat skates through the top of the crease knocking into Pekka and sending his stick flying. Hard to fault Pekka on that one, but he did flip his lid at Erat.

5th goal against - Own goal, Hamhuis was being hounded by Conboy who was getting the delayed call against him, yet still hanging all over Hammer. Hamhuis looked like he simply lost control of the puck as he tried to turn up ice and slid it into the empty net...

Hornqvist actually looked like he decided to shoot the puck on Leighton at the last second because Leighton had started cheating out and over towards Arnott at the far post. Puck hit Leighton in the side and honestly rolled off his body into the net before Patric went to dig it out. Hornqvist had just missed a great opportunity at the start of the PP and immediately followed up his goal by missing a wide open net on a beautiful pass from Dumont...

Dumont with the hack and whack for his goal after Arnott made a great play to keep the puck in the OZ along the wall and shoveled it down to Hornqvist in the corner. Patric found the lane and threaded the puck to JP wide open in front, his initial shot was stopped, but JP tucked home the rebound.

One of the worst games I've seen Hamhuis play. Passing was poor, clearing was poor, skating was poor...ugly.
