Caution on the increased tempo that's going to be there in the regular season.

Any word on Jones? Did he play tonight?

Crap, Jones didn't play and Cumiskey did play. Salei didn't play either.

I was at the game last night, got my abuse from Kings fans, but hey, I gave it right back to them Lots of Avs fans there last night.

The team looked very good until they went up 3-1... then they let the Kings attack them & you could see where things were heading after that. In know it's only preseason, but games where you're 2 goals up, you need to find a way to wrap them up & gets the 2 pts.

Some other odds and ends from last night:
- Marty McSorley and the Kings Fox Sports color commentator, Foxy, sat 2 rows behind me. I was nervous that McSorley was behind me...
- Duchene was out on the ice before the pregame skate with black shirt and shorts on, sneakers, and a hat on backwards with huge headphones on shooting the puck into the net. Nothing really happened, it was just interesting seeing him out there by himself. Is this ritual the norm for him?
- It was funny having a lot of Kings fans come up to me & my family and apologize for all the drunk annoying Kings fans. One even said "Go Avalanche" to me... I guess some of the are getting tired of the drunks supporting their team.

It was a fun night, and the more Avs fans there, the BETTER!

Seeing 39 on the back of an Avs jersey made me think, Tyler Arnason! Must be happy to not have him anymore.

No doubt. It's still weird to see TJ in that number.

What's the story with him changing numbers? Did he lose a bet or is he just really community oriented and doing his best to make us forget the nightmare known as iceturd?

Hey sorry about a late post here.
I had a friend who went to the game and here's what she told me she saw when she went:

Quote:
-I believe the Avalanche played defense ok. The Kings were in their zone for most of the night, but the Avalanche held a 3-1 lead for almost the entire second period.
-Anderson did a good job. Has good reflexes.
-Wolski was very active and I saw him on the ice often.
-The Avalanche need to work on the Power-Play ((as always)). To me, it just seemed to need alot of work. Being on the power-play meant nothing at all. The might want to look into being more agressive. It's not always a good thing because you don't want to be penalized alot, but I thought they missed several oppourtunites to check somebody off the puck, or just cause some chaos in the other end and see if something good happens out of it. I wish the best for the Av's, but I think they are gonna have a tough season ahead of them. But nobody has any idea how the regular season is gonna go down.
I asked her to write one for me so we could get a better understanding of the game, 'cause our radio isn't too reliable from what 'exactly' went down.
That's all, it's late but thought I'd post it anyways.

She also kept saying how 'brutal' it was there. She was sitting around a bunch of other Avs fans so that's always good.

I was at the game, but thanks to long lines for beer and food, I missed much of the second period, including both Tucker goals and the fight where Hendricks got beat down.

A few notes: the Avs biggest problem this year will be consistency throughout a game. Makes sense cuz they'll be so young, but it was frustrating to see us blow a 3-1 lead because of just bad play.

However, I was very happy in a lot of moments. O'Reily was very solid defensively. He's just what we're looking for, IMO. He could probably get better on draws, but it didn't seem like he was terrible.

Duchene was great all around. He had some nice moves, and he made some good defensive plays. I think he got some PK time and forced a few good turnovers.

Clark was, of course, awful. But whatcha gonna do?

Cumisky, I can't believe I'm typing this, started to impress. He may just be figuring it out...and my God he's fast.

Biggest problem of the night: taking bad penalties. Seemed like guys like Stazz and Duke took bad penalties at bad times, so we never were able to get momentum to break the tie or get the 4th goal to tie it up. Hannan covered the puck with his hand, I guess, to give Kopitar the PS goal. It's not good that our vets are taking those penalties. Disturbing.

Anderson was nothing special either way. He may have been able to stop one of them, but I didn't see any of them well enough to really make a statement.

Salei and Jones didn't play. Anyone know why, or were they just the scratches of the night? Hope it's not a Jones injury...I was also hoping it was cuz we'd traded Salei...but I got home and checked online and no such luck. Is Salei hurt?

Anyway, twas fun. Talked a lot of smack to Kings fans, even after the loss. Good to see so many Avs fans there, too! Next year again, I hope!

Kings fan here, just wanted to chyme in regarding Frozen Fury. . you guys have some good fans. . My friends & I were heckling an Av's fan the entire night. . good sport, totally ran with it and had a great time. We were definitely apart of the Kings "taunting gauntlet" that was outside the MGM and I don't think I could of done it if I was walking through a crowd of Colorado fans. . anyways, great game. . see you next year.

The taunting gauntlet...haha

I don't know if you were there or saw me, but I was the guy in the Sakic jersey getting everyone's attention by chanting "LA sucks" & blowing kisses at you guys. I've never been booed by so many people in my life

What you want to do next year is walk out of the arena and get food/beer at the MGM food court. Not much of a line for food out there and you can get beers at that little bar that makes the wussy frozen drinks right across from the food court. If you need a cocktail, hoof it over to the Wolfgang Puck bar that is at the beginning of the casino closest to the arena.

Since they allow outside food and drink, there is no reason to pay arena prices for crappy nachos. If you stay at the MGM or the Signature, you can even make it back to your room to get yourself a refill on alcohol or whatever you are drinking. My group rolled back to our room for Jameson refills and some other party activites and I made it back in time to catch the Simmonds fight...pretty impressive since we stayed until the horn sounded to end the 1st.
