So I drafted a Ranger for my fantasy team....

Hi folks,

I just made a fantasy draft last night and I wanted to know if I made a good guess in picking him 13th round. I expect him to make 50 points this year, are my expectations too high ?

We were 23, picked each 10 fowards, 3 def, 1 goalie and 1 team.

Thanks for your opinions !

PS Sorry for my english ... i'm from quebec and do not talk english too often ..

Callahan is a little hard to project because every time you think you have him pegged, he works his tail off and exceeds expectations.

I worry about people over-projecting him because of his gritty and likeable style. I can see him being a very consistent 25 goal scorer.

Having said that, you just can't overlook his work ethic. 30-35 goals in a great season, though seemingly high, really isn't unrealistic.

Hes a debatable player. I think last year was a career year for him, but guys here will also swear up and down he will score 30 goals. So it depends on who you believe.

if he plays on a line with gaborik i wouldn't be surprised if he put up some real good numbers.

I doubt he will get much time with Gaborik

I'd say Callahan by 5 or so points only based on what I've seen from preseason

It's close, but I'll give the edge to Higgins just because he's broken the 25-goal barrier and has had multiple 20-goal seasons.

If Higgins plays on the top line with Dubi and Gaborik, I think he can score more than 50 points.

I see Cally with a 25-25 type year. Maybe 30 goals.

Yeah as far as fantasy goes, I'd say Higgins and Callahan will have about that same impact by the end of the year. They shouldn't be too far apart in G and A, but I'd say Callahan will get the edge in shots and +/- (and SHG if your league counts that), while Higgins will probably have a few more PPP.

I'm going to go with Higgins. Not by a wide margin, but by a handful of goals and a few assists.

I well know Higgins, as a habs fan and I think that Higgy is a 50 points player, when healty. Chris is very inconstant, streaky player.

But overall, he is a good two-way player.

So you really think an inexperienced 24 year old player in his first full season, who busts his tail on every shift and is just learning how to get it done the NHL has already had the best year of his career? I dont see how he does not improve and Im sure thats how most people here feel.

Yeah, he busts his tail. So did Orty. I think Callahan had a career year because I dont think he has the offensive ability to put up more than 20 goals on a season to season basis. His passing, puckhandling and playmaking is downright mediocre. I think he's a great third liner and understandably a fan favorite, but I dont think hes going to "keep getting better" like other here.

I havent missed a game since 2001. Callahan is a glorified third liner, at best a second liner. 35 goals? Not in his career.

I'll take a 20 goal season from Callahan.

IMO, he doesn't need to score more then that. He contributes in other ways.

I think he can be a consistent 20 goal guy each year.

But 30 is asking too much.

I like his skill set. I like his effort. I like him. He's a solid player that i would never trade or let walk in free agency. But i doubt he scores 30.

I would LOVE to be wrong about that though.

Callahan will have at least 50 points. My guess is 28/22... and 250 hits.

Book it.

i dont know how you can say never....bernie nicolls scored 70 one year....all it takes is the right situation and a 25 goal scorer can score 40....look at cheechoo a few yrs back....56 i believe..

callys a smart player with good hands and a nose for the net...

well...all we can do at this point is wait and see......time will tell

15 players scored 35 goals in the nhl this past year. cally will be lucky to hit 30.

Cally has improved his skating a ton. I can see 30 out of him. I was one of the people who thought he'd be an around 20 goal guy.....18-20...mainly b/c of his foot speed not being so great. However, his skating has improved tremendously. I can see 30

Spot on analysis of Callahan.

I would love it if he could pot 30 goals as well, but he was playing on the 1st line with Gomez last year. He likely won't be getting as much ice time so I'm predicting closer to 20 goals for him.
